DNS-Changer Malware

Dear Customer

You may have heard about the malicious software (malware) called “DNSChanger” that has affected millions of users worldwide, including Singapore.

The malware reconfigures users’ default Internet connectivity settings. This exposes them to fraudulent or malicious online content without their knowledge.

The US authorities have arrested the people believed to be responsible for the malware. A temporary solution was also set up so that affected users would not lose their Internet access abruptly then.

According to SingCERT (the security incident response centre set up by IDA and NUS), the temporary solution will be disconnected on 9 July 2012. This means that affected users who have not removed this malware will face Internet connectivity issues from 9 July 2012.

As you may not realise that you have been affected by the malware, we strongly encourage you to visit SingCERT’s website at http://www.singcert.org.sg/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=519. It provides information about the malware as well as free online tools to verify whether you have been affected and to restore corrupted Internet connectivity settings.

We hope that you find this information useful.

Wonder if some of you receive this in your mail. Called Starhub yesterday and it's actually true. Also on today's Straits Times.

I received a similar email from Singtel over a week ago. Just received the same email from StarHub yesterday.

For the longest time I couldn't access some photos on bmw forum. Their admin tried their best to troubleshoot but still couldn't figure out the problem. Yesterday after I followed the steps on the email, lo and behold I could see the photos. Guess the virus must have infected my PC
