IMHO,

U want to use the GPSr for your car while driving in Singapore, Malaysia and U can use it when U go overseas,

or you want a handheld model for tracking purposes?

I think more likely the former.

Currently the best brand to buy for use in Singapore is Garmin and Garmin based GPS are 100% supported by Malsingmap.com.

So when you go into the Garmin site, look for "On the Road" and Nuvi Models.

BTW I am currently using Nuvi 670 upgraded from Nuvi 360.

U wanna more info. U can PM me pls. ! (I do not promote or sell things. ;D)

ok thxs, will check it out. :)

Up to the middle of Mar '08, Malsingmaps.com previous free unlocked maps for SG & MY was only up to June 2007.

Just checked their website, now they have free unlocked SG & MY maps up to Jan 2008.

I started Feb 2007 with a Nuvi 360 and in less than 3 weeks I got so contented with it, I immediately upgraded to the Nuvi 670.

I bought mine over eBay.

If u r looking at 670, might as well look at 770. the features are a lot better esp the advance navigation features. good for long trips with multiple POI. Plan on PC using nRoute load to Nuvi & seat back & follow instructions.

How's the battery huh?

David is right! If U are looking for the wide screen models, get the newer Nuvi 770.

Nuvi 670 battery sucks! Dunno abt. Nuvi 770, probably the same.

It's not mean to be handheld but powered by the car supplies.

The Nuvi 670 battery is non-removable & non-replaceable (jus like Apple do their products)

and I think the Nuvi 770 is the same.

The Nuvi 86X range looks like the Li Ion Rechargeable battery is removable.

any comments on the 255W? I dont need all the extras like bluetooth, just want a good GPS.

IMHO,

The 255W is a good buy esp. it has a wide screen.

Somehow I find the Garmin bluetooth car kit to be very useful.

How useful is the extra feature which announces the name of the streets?

I know the older version just tells you to "turn left" where the new one might say something like "turn left into XXX Street".

Thanks!

It is good for a laugh sometimes. I drove to Genting recently, and when the voice tries to pronounce Malay road names, I can only burst out laughing.

Still...... I like having this feature ( when the name is pronounced correctly) as it confirms the road to turn into.

I am using the Garmin Nuvi 760. It's the latest available here in Singapore (so they say). I am quite impressed by the unit cos it managed to get a satellite-fix even in cloudy conditions. Also, the screen is big.

Garmin today announced Mercedes-Benz Accessories will continue its relationship with Garmin by selecting the nüvi 760 as their latest portable after market navigation solution. The nüvi 760 named the ‘StreetPilot III’ by Mercedes-Benz, is customized with a specially designed mount for the new generation A-Class, B-Class and C-Class cars will be available at dealers across Europe May 2008 for about 550 Euros.

The Mercedes-Benz StreetPilot III (nüvi 760) has been designed with a special dashboard mount integrated into the vehicles electronics allowing for easy access to the touch screen controls and a clear view of the maps and navigational instructions. The design of the in-car mount wires it directly into the car’s electronics meaning there are no visible power cables.

The StreetPilot III (nüvi 760) has a large 4.3? widescreen, includes traffic avoidance, safety camera alerts and hands free calling via a Bluetooth connection. Since the system is integrated into your Benz’ electronics all spoken directions are via the car speakers, muting the radio as the voice guidance speaks the street names as well as directions.

The portable navigation system is perfectly suited to new generation A- and B-Class vehicles equipped with the Audio 5 CD radio model. The system can also be used in predecessor A- and B-Class models equipped with the Audio 5 CD and Audio 20 CD radio models, as well with the Audio 20 CD in C-Class models built between 2004 and 2007.

Thanks

Hi David,

Maybe U know it already or maybe not.

Now Jerome Wee's donor maps can find street address.

Previously they can search only HDB block nos: now the maps can search for SG House Number & Street

eg. No 18 Pasir Ris Height, No 33A Lorong 10 Geylang......wakakakakak!!!!!!
