Replacing the gear knob

Recommended Posts

I don't know about you guys but I find the gear knob in my c-coupe hideous. very ah-pek looking and very out of place with the modern interior.

there's currently a replacement on sale in ebay that is a replica of what's in a SLS.

Now that's what I call a gear knob!!!

Now the million dollar question, has anyone tried changing theirs before? How difficult is this as a DIY on a scale of 1 to 10?

I interested!!! The height of the current gear knob also makes access to the lower part of the central console a little troublesome!

Courtesy of MBWorld forum user rb23lb.

-pop shift boot out by pressing in on one of the edges and slightly lifting up

- flip shift boot inside out

- take down plastic collar on rod by turning an 1/8 turn and wiggling downwards

- lift off knob and boot by pulling upwards

Haha! Thought you were going for it! But the eBay seller did state that it's compatible with W204.

I wanna know how the finish product will look. After removing the original gear stick, there'll be a huge hole where the leather used to cover. The photo in the eBay site doesn't really show what happens to that part after the installation. My original gear stick has signs of slight wear and tear already.

I think what leftfield was bio-ing wasn't really high enough for him to pursue.
