yky:"Same experience here. Could not find anyone that can tune via the OBD port for my mondeo ecoboost 2.0 ( same engine as the volvo ) until Dave claimed that his counterparts in UK could. He never claim that he is the tuner, but was in fact, acting as intermediary for the actual UK tuner ( whom I cannot find anything on in the web ). After spending $1200, I could feel no difference. I told him so and despite the usual 200km acclimatization period, things did not change. Did not bother to confront him after that. I am not too overly perturbed if he DID NOT load any new maps. I would be more worried if he had loaded any OTHER non Ford / volvo maps instead. Now my car is strongly performing well with Hannson's peggy."

To be fair I think he did genuinely loaded maps into the older cars...but its the recent years especially since 2010 onwards...many cars have anti-tune protocols loaded and writing a modded map via OBD became impossible. But obviously he didn't have the knowledge to remove the ECUs and write the new maps directly into the board...so he just do what he is doing now lor...just plug into OBD and tell people that he has loaded a map...

U mean he dosent knows about it after all these of experience & pretending that eveything is in order? If yes, then he got to face the music.

Correct me if I'm wrong stock ECU can learn & overwrite after learning the driver's driving style after OBD.

I think he knows lah....just can't be bothered cos too much hassle to remove ecu and do the work...plug and play easier money mah....

The ECU will adapt to the map that it has...won't overwrite a map...

Yap adapt is the word. So why do u think after all these he wants to pull a fast one?

I prefer to dynotune for before and after whp and torque curve comparisons, followed by road tune to get the driving feel right.

Each car is different. Loading a map onto it doesn't optimise the performance.

I think you misunderstood. The ECU won't over write a properly loaded modded map. It will adapt to the new map to produce more power.

As for pulling a fast one....its Because he wants to make money fast! Instead of learning the skill to open up the ECU to write a new map into the board (which even if he can, it'll be a few hours worth of work), he chose to just tell people he can tune these anti-tune cars via OBD, collect fast cash then hope that no one finds out...

Unless its a very close buddy operating the dyno, or if I get to stand next to the dyno watching the data recorded live with a close buddy that I can trust operating the car...I won't trust the results. I especially won't trust dyno tests from the tuner workshops because it's so easy to alter the results otherwise...butt feel and how the car drives on the road is the best...after 40-60km or after a few full drive cycles you will know if the car has improved in power and smoothness etc. if its not obvious or significant enough, then go get the money back...ultimately it's how you feel when you drive that is most important....

Not happens to our E46 era, the ECU adapt to the driver style after OBD. So is like back to the future & we won't feel the punch. Only for those who continously hard driving the butt feel is always there.

Hope OBD is here to clarify, is better to hear from the horses mouth.
