Forbes names drunken shrimp among most disgusting delicacies

Sun, Aug 07, 2011*|*AsiaOne

Forbes recently released its list of ten most disgusting delicacies. According to the report, exotic foods have*been made more accessible to Western economies through trade, tourism and technology.

Some of the foods look and taste bad, but others are more palatable, according to gourmands who have tried them.

Here is the list according to Forbes:

1) Fermented mare's milk from Central Prairies

2) Hakarl, or dried shark meat from Iceland, with a distinctive rotten fish meets stinky cheese flavour

3) Snake wine

4) Balut, or fertilised duck egg from the Philippines

5) Kopi luwak, or civet cat faeces coffee

6) Drunken shrimp - a dish of live shrimp tossed in alcohol

7) Bird's nest - made from the saliva of swifts

8) Preserved century egg - a duck's egg that is preserved with clay, ash, lime and salted until it turns black, brown or gray coloured

9) Casu Marzu, a Sardinian sheep's cheese that is made by allowing flies to lay their eggs on it. When the maggots hatch, they eat the cheese and excrete the cheese to make it softer and more flavourful.

10) Smalahove, a sheep's head

Seems that what the westerners do not take are considered disgusting. How come blue cheese is not in the list? It smells like chicken sh!t, tastes even worse.
