This is a common pracice for years. It was rampant when the odo was analogue till the digital came along. Somehow, some wise guy out manage to crack the digital also...so now, back to square 1. Heard that they're still unable to tamper with some conti models eg Volvo, Beemer & Merc.

You are wrong.....All this above can be 're-clock' months after they are launch.

Nothing cant be done , even the Panamera was a easy job to the device.

Some of this device cost more than $100K .

Now I can probably double confirmed "my suspicion" when I bought my pre-loved FL W211.

Though stated 17K+ km on the odometer for a 1 year 1 mth old car, felt that the car dun feel like one of that mileage!

Kanebo!! cosmetic....hehehe! :becky:

I smashed my Mark X in mid 2010, all air bags burst and front part of the car "chui chui". and it took more than 3 week to get it repair.

Sold it to car dealer after repair. It was advertised as "100% accident free".

The moral of the story: I will not buy used car in future.

How do they "re-clock" the mileage?

As long as Republic is not the one doing it .... I am fine with it. I will have issue if RP, PPSL are doing it as they are supposed to be reputable and we do not expect them to do such things .....

A lot of dealers are doing such things and I guess any dealer will tell you that the other dealers are doing it and it is a norm...

u r right! i was like wtf???? but was told republic sold off to external bidder

RP cant possibly keep all the cars that were traded in. They will let go some to dealers if they can make some profit.

It sure to be external dealer which 're clock' it.

RP will filter all trade in car, those high mileage , accident and not so good condition will be release to external dealer, PPSL same practise.

For you info, if you 'accidentally' bought a car which is re clock and you can find most evidence like last servicing done mileage.....Bingo ! You might had strile 4D if you can find yourself a good lawyer....

Moral story is.....keep hunting for car that are re clock if you want strike 4D .....hahaaa!

I have seen it with own eyes when someone wanna prepare the car to export. They use a portable electronic thingy to trick the recorded milage. Some cars need to remove the dash board to do it and some cars need to reset readings from the gearbox's readings....hence; to buy 2nd hand car, do not trust the milage 100%. My friend told me, most of dealers did this, is common!

And someone also told me that Merc need to set 3 stages to reset readings.

I had a Lexus GS which had it's reading reset by replacing a new instrument cluster by my AD BMS (borneo) as the tachometer konked out. It was about 45k km then, & I actually requested that they keep my original odo reading by adusting it forward. BMS said it's impossible. When I sold the car 1 yr later, it had 20k km on it. The dealer thought they found a jewel when they saw my 5 yr old car with only 20k km on it. Obviously I had a premium resale price. Btw, there's no way a dealer can check service records with BMS unless you are the registered owner. The onus is on the next buyer.

Moral of the story: we can con the dealers too.

My friend had a recent case when he sold his second hand 523. After selling it, it was found that the meter was tampered although he has prove that it was done before he bought it.

Nevertheless, he paid $6k penalty or risk court case from the buyer, Premium A.

He bought the 523 from BizzCarr and he later found that the contract he signed then had a clause to discharge them from any mileage responsibility.

Worse of all, the car was verified by TWM who accepted a 2 years warranty for it prior to his purchased. And he only drive it for 3 months!!

Frankly, if you have the means and channel, i think you should. You are saving the next victim.

20K adjustment is nothing compared to my friend whose car was he bought it at 70K and was found that a month before he bought it, it was always 125k!!

Lots of issue with this company, manage by father and son.....go google it.

If you are buying a <3 years used car, you can try calling AD or the few 'bigger' workshop who 'eat' warranty 3-5yrs type for service record but doing this will be a tiring things. By inspecting on the car conditions by a pro mechcanic, they should be able to tell is the mileage 'original' or not from the parts mounting bosh and joint.......
