Hi,

For the Bros who have installed sports filters like K&N, what is your engine oil change frequency ? Still stick to 15k. Any advise is very much appreciated.

Thanks.

W204 C200k oil change at normal intervals with K&N no issues been using this brand for a long time now. Bought the cleaning kit and simple to DiY better then the stainless steel ones for filtration of smaller particules of dirt that stainless steel mesh don't trap.

What's the reason for the more regular oil change ?

better flow rate comes at a price - not possible to have a better filtration than stock if using sports filters. as such, recommended to change your oil more frequently. oil is super precious to sustain your engine.

I was advised that our hot climate is the reason more frequent oil change is necessary. The oil breaks down faster, coupled with the forced charging, temp is higher. This type of after mkt filters typically does not create much issue since our roads are not dusty.

Not sure which is true, but I suppose no harm for more frequent change. Pocket lighter only.

Any help if using 5W-50 EO?

Is thicker better for protection?

Driving W204. My first 7k km was on original air filter. At that point, engine oil looked disgustingly "black". So, did an oil change (same engine oil as original). Then, inserted K&N too at this point.

At 14k km, by checking the engine oil dip stick, the colour was still quite "good" (meaning, it wasn't as black as when I changed my air filter). All things constant, seems to suggest that while on K&N, engine oil was not as dirty compared to using original air filter.

Will observe again.
