On the average 2 to 3 years.

Sometimes U so lucky it may even last U up to 5 years.

If sway, sometimes even less than a year kaput due to poor quality!

The car battery is only to crank your starter motor to crank up and start your engine. In earlier days for HU to keep it's memory backup and dates. Nowadays these are usually taken care by capacitors or internal batteries.

Meaning there's hardly any drainage of current from the car battery when the car is not driven.

Once the engine gets started, the alternator takes over to supply the electricity to the car system & usage and also keep the battery charged.

Each battery has a cycle life - To discharge fully and recharge fully is call 1 cycle.

Not every battery has the same cycle life even from the same brand and model but the diff. is not much as the diff. compare to diff. brands.

Each time U charged up a battery - it converts the chemical energy to electrical energy. After every cycle the active chemical gets lesser and lesser in terms of capacity.

Due to poor assembly quality, U might have an internal short in the battery plates (electrodes) - your battery can kaput without warning. (Happened to my W203 after slightly over 2 yrs - Parked the car - one hr came back - battery totally flat without warning - even the remote cannot open the door and has to use the key manually to open the door)

If the battery is coming to end of life - Usually U will notice weaker & weaker cranking by the days.

For those who are into "heavy ICE" there is a possibilty of heavy amp (current) requirement then the alternator can supply.

This way the battery gets discharged & charged very often thus recycle very fast to the end of the cycle life.

When the amp requirement is more than the alternator can supply, there's also a possibility of shorter alternator life.

Imagine U pouring water out from a pail and the tap(alternator) cannot keep up with the amount of water U are discharging! It will die a quick death.

In my previous W124, the stock Bosch Alternator was only 60A.

Due to my ICE(car audio) req'mts I changed it to a High Output Alternator of 230A & running up to 4 batteries.

Tonite - Confirmed??? Double-Confirmed lah!!!!

Rp 1 worth! :becky:

Didn't check what's on my W212 but I have Varta in my Prado 3.0 TDI

If I need a new battery, it will be Varta or Hoppecke in order of preference!
