Need advice from all the old birds here:

I am going to sell away a car that is registered under my wife's name, and I want to retain the VRN and use it on another car that is registered under my name. Is this possible? How much do I have to pay to LTA for such a VRN transfer? Browsed through LTA's website but still confused. Anyone knows? Thanks!

Thanks Al. I thought S$1300 is only for retaining VRN and use on a resale car, only when it is the same owner? For different owner is it the same? Becos the VRN that I want to retain was under my wife's name, and I want to use this VRN on a car that is registered under my name.

Steps to retain VRN (BELONG TO WIFE/ IMMEDIATE FAMILY) TO YOURSELF

1) Ask Current VRN owner to write in to LTA, stating reasons and willingness to give the plate up to you

2) Subject to approval, you will be informed by LTA on whether you have been successful

3) If successful, you will recieve a LTA letter , with that letter and both identity cards and signatures on retention forms, proceed to LTA counter

4) Pay an admin charge to LTA for transfering VRN ownership to you (cant remember how much? in the region of $50 or less....

5) With that doen, you are now the owner of the VRN (which once belong to your wife). Then you need to pay the $1300 to transfer this to an old car or $100 to a new car.

6) your wife car will receive a new generated VRN from the system.

Hope this helps! This was what I went thru when I did the same between my wife and myself.

Thanks blackknight! This really helps a lot!

If you don't mind, can you PM to me the draft letter so that I can just copy and paste? Thanks again!

Thanks again!!! The above is good enough, will copy and paste, no need to crack my brain, haha!

BTW, you need to mail this letter to LTA right? Maybe I'll just go down to hand in the letter since it is not too far from my home.

Thanks for all the help and advice, appreciate it.
