I intended to install an additional car battery in my boot for my CCTV and recorder. Darren Auto told me that I need a very good kind of car battery that cost $599 as the normal car battery emit a gas that is harmful to my health. Is it true? I only read that car battery emit hydrogen. Anyone has experience having car battery in the boot?

My E90 330i's battery located at the car boot... you can take a look via the following link. Thus, I'm sure that BMW's battery won't cost :hand: you SG$599. You can buy a BWM battery for them to install.... :becky:

No idea abt the battery thingy. So did u pay $900 for the installation?

Darren auto quoted me $200. I was prepared to let them do but the $599 battery puts me off. So I thought I ask first before I get CHOP again. Not very familiar with car :fish:

That means I probably got bullshited again. I must be wearing a carrot head. Actually I just need the battery for my CCTV only.

However, they're right that most of the battery emit gas and therefore usually most of the car comes with a vent tube to release the gas outside the car while you can get a vent tube installation supposedly cheaper than that.....

I think normally a car battery cost about $100 and I tried to google abit, it says all battery leak out gas so I guess their $599 also does that. Haiz. I will go to my friend instead to see if something can be done. Why can't people just do business honestly?

I m not too sure how complicated is the installation as you want it 24/7 monitoring. The extra battery mount it on yr car need to be recharged. Hmm interesting, do seek second opinion & post yr finding here.

The dry type (AGM) battery not emit gas while the price may be 70%-100% expensive than wet type (lead-acid) battery...... may be you can consider but definitely not as expensive as SG$599 in any sense.....

Another issue is the dynamo of your ride may not have sufficient power to charge 2 batteries at the same time viewing aircon always on at SG....

Probably they were trying to sell U a Yellow Optima Battery!

There are various Optima range of batteries.

They are deep cycle batteries that can go into "deep discharge"

A normal battery when go into deep discharge - i.e over discharge

and fall below 10V, U will have the likelihood of a permanent dead battery.

Whereas a Optima battery can fall below 10V and can be easily recharged back to life.

IMHO the red Optima should suit you fine!

Like Ricric_lo mentioned that your alternator must be able to charge your 2 batteries which imho should be not a problem if U use a battery isolator.

What a battery isolator do is to isolate the battery in your engine compartment to the one that is in your boot.

In my previous W124, I had one Yellow Optima Battery in the Engine Compartment and 3 more in the boot with a 250 Amp Isolator and 250 Amp High Output Alternator.

It was for my 5 KW RMS of ICE amp power.

To summarise - get a Red Optima Battery with a battery isolator.

Try New Generation Autosound - see boss cartoon and say Unker Seah from Batam ask him to offer U a solution for the CCTV.

Or go back to Darren Auto & tell Boss Jack Seah that Mr. Seah from Batam ask him to charge U "not too much" and recommend the use of an Red Optima battery & if possible with a battery isolator.
