Our Brake Pads

Hi All,

Last week my colleague sent his W204 to Pandan for shock absorber change. At same time seems like they also did a check of the car. I peep thru' the checklist and was surprised to see it indicated 60% brake pad (front & back) left.

Goodness, the ride was only 4 mths and ran 4,700km + mileage ... already 40% brake pad wear off ? our brake pad so "jiat" ? going by this rate, by 10th mth need to change brake pad ?

Is this accurate ?

Only if he has been slamming on his brakes every time. So far our w204 1 year 4 mths+ still have plenty of pad left.

Well then I wish C&C's checklist was wrong ... collague's W204 could be a lemon, as he has visited workshop twice to fix sound from gearbox & change absorbers. Now brakes left with 60%.

I almost got that car (a black one), but left it for him while I chose the grey instead.

W204 uses the brakes for braking (of course), ESP, and automatically wiping water off the rotors during rain. So, i am not really surprised if brake pads are down to 60% after only 4 months if the driver drives in the rain a lot, drive very aggressively all the time and do hard braking often.

Of course there is another factor which many did not take into account, ie. driving off without releasing the hand/foot brake. I am guilty of that... and i am sure many W204 drivers are guilty of that too.

They both use the same brake pads, just that normal brakes activate all 4 brakes but parking brakes activate either just the front or rear pair of brakes. Parking brakes normally are cable activated normal brakes are hydraulic activated.

I dont engage the foot brake unless on slope.

like that, during 15k servicing sure have to change brake pads ... maybe I should go outside change pads before 15k servicing ... else their razor sharp knife will be waiting for me

Pardon my cheapo-ness :becky:

You'll be surprised. C&C brake pads are cheaper than PML, PA, VGS, SMM, etc...

Anyway, 15k service no need to change lah,... i think 30k or 45k service then need to change.
