Have you collected your new car ? I was advised by my SE there is no need for run in for Merc as the engine has been "run in" at the factory.

Congrats and have fun with your new ride.

Cheers

engine, yes , most car nowadays already factory "run-in"

however, not all other hundreds of moving parts like gearbox and tranny.

at least 300km for the wheel. 500km for the brakes to sit (depending on driving pattern and traffic), no unnecessary ebrake.

ai ya, go abit slow like got needles at the accelerator and u only have powder between yr feet and the pedal. haha.

jokes aside, good run-in helps with the longevity of the ride.

noted!! thanks guys,

it's a 180k 1.6ltr.. some SE mentioned to run in some says no.

which was why i was confused.. i should just behave till the 500km.

just run in like you would in any car.... first 1000km, go easy on the accelerator.

Brakes generally about 300-500km. Tyres,.. depends on what type of tyres, some run in well after 300 km, some need about 600km.

Just dont floor the pedal and drive like a qualifying lap during the 1st 1000km, and you will be fine.

this is what you should do...

1) first 1000km run in, don't travel at constant RPM, always vary RPM, you can rev high to 4,000-4,500 rpm but don't stay there, always travel at diff rpm levels

2) next 1000km, vary rpm higher to say 5,000 or even redline it, but just for a split second.

3) 2500km onwards drive normally, your O rings should already sit in tight and your engine is primed to gun etc.

brakes and tires, not much run in required but don't do hard braking or cornering for first 100-200km you should be ok. these days new tired don't require run in anymore, old days they coat the tires with some waxy stuff that makes it last longer but slippery.

enjoy bro!

Taken straight from your MB manual -

http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/manual-cars/ba/cars/w212/en/in-depth/d63e18055.shtml

The first 1,500 km

The more you look after the engine when it is new, the more satisfied you will be with its performance in the future.

Therefore, drive at varying speeds and engine speeds for the first 1,500 km.

Avoid overstraining the vehicle during this period, e.g. driving at full throttle.

Change gear in good time, at the latest when the rev counter needle is 2/3 of the way to the red area in the rev counter display.

Do not manually shift to a lower gear to brake the vehicle.

Vehicles with automatic transmission:

If possible, do not depress the accelerator pedal past the point of resistance (kickdown).

Only select shift ranges 3, 2 or 1 when driving slowly, e.g. in mountainous terrain.

After 1,500 km, you may gradually bring the vehicle up to full road and engine speeds.

Additional running-in notes for AMG vehicles:

do not drive at speeds above 140 km/h for the first 1,500 km.

only allow the engine to reach a maximum engine speed of 4,500 rpm briefly.

You should also observe these notes on running in if the engine or parts of the drive train on your vehicle have been replaced.

Nach oben

AMG vehicles with rear axle locking differential

Your vehicle is fitted with a self-locking differential on the rear axle. Change the oil after a running-in period of 3,000 km to improve protection of the rear axle differential. This oil change extends the service life of the differential. Have the oil change carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this purpose.

Collected my car 2 days ago. Was told to go for 1st servicing at 15k. I'm surprised need not go for run-in service at 1k. Difference between a Conti & Jap?

Congrats Bro!

Finally got your ride!

For me to hit 15000 km will take me abt 15 mths.

In our hot & humid weather even synthetic oil will breakdown quicker than in Ang MOH temperate countries!

I do my servicing every 6 mths.

I feel very Ang Lok doing it

Think the "1st oil change at 15k" is a shocker for many who have switched from Japs to Contis.

I check the quality of the oil from the dip stick regularly to see how "dirty" the oil is. Since the 1st recommended service is only at 15k, I did an oil change at 9k when the colour of the oil turned dark. Oil change + filter cheap cheap only.
