Hi all, just wondering if there's any noticeable diff between 95 or 98 for our cars. i have always pumped 98 but at current prices, im thinking if the car can use 95 without any power or combustion issues.

Hi, i suggest you look at the car manual and follow the petrol grade that is recommended. Your car will run more efficiently that way... As i understand, all european cars have to run on lower octane fuel. That means, do not use higher grade fuel than necessary.

Also there are many accesories etc available, eg broquet in tank ball to increase octane rating in fuel to give u a better drive. I have used them extensively and from bum dyno .. they work...

The other alternative is to convert your car to CNG. Fuel consumption is cut by half and octane rating is higher. CNG has an octane rating of more than 100.

you can contact C.Melchers or go to www.cng.com.sg for more info..

To date i have been using cng cars for more than 4 years now and besides being enviromentally friendly, its also pocket friendly.

Easiest thing is to look at your petrol cap what does it say ? Mine says 92 (95) I've tried vpower and 98 and so on but no appreciable increase in milage. So I stick to 95 which is prescribed for the car.

Performance wise , 95 or 98 is about the same. But for me consumption wise, 98 gives better mileage. Tried the test of 95 vs 98 in all my cars ... same result all the time... 98 gives about 8-10% more mileage. So, in the end, i stayed on 98.

Anyway, for me i can use 95 from Esso, SPC or Caltex, but never Shell.

Really??? 8-10% better mileage on ron98??? I did 757km on ron95 previously. With an 8-10% increase, it'll come to between 817km - 832km!!! Possible??? Assuming ceteris paribus for driving style, of course.

757km on 95 is really fantastic.

i managed max 550-575 on 98. On 95, i can get only 510-520km.

70% urban, 30% highway.

What tyres is your car on? C200K, C180K, C180KBE, C200 CGI or C180 CGI ?

757km with 99% on highway ?

My tyres are 235/35/19. C180 CGI. Highway on weekdays, city driving on weekends. That's 70% highway, 30% urban.

my C180kBE hit about 520 on the first full tank of esso95...

city/highway 80/20

kinda not what i was expecting cos SE told me FC is about 13km/L (tested and proven).

i jokingly ask if it should be 13L/km...

anyone taken it up north and do a full highway test before?

My Honda Stream could make it from JB to Penang on a single 55L tank with 1/4 left... that's abt 16-17km/L.

Dunno if my Merc babe can do it not...

I tried... Singapore-KL (approx 375km) used about 3/8 tank. trip computer showing 7.5L/100km. So, if 95% highway, ... 13km/L is possible.

But if you do 200km/h for long stretch,.... consumption can go down to almost 10L/100km.

forgot to mentioned that SE say 13km/L is mixture of city and highway...

maybe she didn't tell me it should be 95% highway and 5% city... lolx

My W203 1.8kompressor has achieved 13 km/L on highway driving, going average 80 to 100 km/h.

The problem is to achieve good fuel consumption means taking note of driving style, not driving too fast, light footed and other factors. In the end it's WTF with all these trouble, now I drive without bothering such stuff and this makes driving more pleasurable.

I tried last month from Sin to KL (with trips to PJ and Mid Valley) and back Sin on one full tank. It was scary because I pushed it too far, the tank was near zero when I reach 2nd link Shell station.

Wow!!! 13km/L translates to 845km if assuming the tank is 65L!!! Seriously?!?!?!

My last tank on Shell 98 managed to get above 600 km. My target is 600 km on a full tank which give more more than 10 km/l. Anything above 10km/l to me is a bonus. I agree price of petrol is "crazy" now... more than S$110 for a full tank (around 57 litres) for Shell 98.

I have tried Shell 95 but it seems that I am able to get better mileage with Shell 98.
