Hi,

Not sure if this topic has been discussed before. The rims get dirty very fast from the brake residue. Compared to Japanese makes, they take a lot more effort to clean them.

Why does the merc generate so much dirt, or is this a peculiar trait of contis ? Any advise to minimize this problem or good fast way of cleaning ?

Thanks.

Yes is common issue & has been discussed, conclusion is too change the brake pad. Do a search u will find the answer. I hv changed my front to BBK and took less than 5 minutes to clean my rims as for the rear at least 20 mins for both.

My rims are clean almost all the time!

The blanga car washer in our mscp, I paid him $15/mth just to clean my wheels 5x per week.

Almost every week, I wash my car including the wheels inside out.

I've been kind, my younger brother paid his car washer to clean his Brabus wheels on his C Class for $10/mth.

So looks like this problem is common. Takes me about 20 mins to clean all 4 wheels, but that's the most dreaded part of the car wash. Maybe investing in a proper brush might lessen the pain. Bangla to clean wheels ? Hmm can consider.

Bro Blackmerc, so I suppose your front rims don't have the greasy stuff after the brake change ?

Nope, after one week later the front rims still looks shiny. Is the stock pads issue nothing more.

Check out the amour all wheel protector at

Only about $20 i think...available at NTUC, autobaccs etc.

Been using this for some time...really works!

Another product which "repels" the brake dust is Autoglym Alloy Wheel Protector. Costs some S$20 from Autobacs. Works just like described. Best of all, after getting through the rain, it still seem to repel the brake dust!

My Aug '10 w204 has stained rims and so no amount of scrubbing will do the trick. I usually wash my car pretty religiously but there was a period of about 3 weeks when I was very busy and didn't do anything with the car and the stains set in.

The only way to get them out is to use a wheel polish (I think mine is by turtle wax) but I don't have the patience or finger power to rub the polish into the little nooks and crannies...tried it for half a wheel once and my finger almost fell off...
