Spray Painting vs. Body Wrap

Hi guys!

Just wanted to ask if anyone knows the pros and cons of vinyl body wraps vs. spray painting the car.

I have thought about performing a total bodyshell spraypaint but heard about the potential problems that it may cause (e.g. leakages and failing electronics) since they need to dismantle the interior before spray painting it.

Hence, I thought a good alternative of doing a full body wrap of the car - my C180K is now Palladium Silver, but would very much prefer an aggressive Obsidian Black! Heard GenConcept is able to do it for $3,500. Appreciate your thoughts on this! :becky:

I will go for Matt black, the advantage is that u don't to have wash yr ride weekly & no worries of water marks after the downpour in the afternoon. Do take note that u needs to update ur log card with LTA for change of car color. Of course u can choose to ignore :). Another sticker shop is Visionwork at blk 176 Sin Ming, go google their contact nos.

Black is boring color, if u r young & dangerous go for Lambo orange or green :).

FYI, there's a big complaint thread in bmw-sg forums about the workmanship of Gen Concepts just recently. You might wanna read it up before going to them:

Many years ago, I resprayed my whole car from brown to white. After that, indeed there were many electrical failures and my car was going in and out of the workshop all the time. But that was like about 10 years ago, so I don't know if things have improved nowadays.

My 2 cts.

Blackmercs - Haha... I would drive a matte black one if my badge says C63. LOL!

Thanks NewC180 and loh_li - I read the BMW forum... gosh, really dashed my hopes on getting a black merc :( I did hear about the electronics being eff-ed up when you do a total body shell spray...

I shall head down to Ubi this weekend!

I'll go for matt black too, no need C63 la, just debadge your ride and it will be nice and cool. There's a matt black WRX/Impreza in my neighbourhood, damn chio even though I'm no Subaru fan.

All is not lost in spray painting. What I have encountered 10 years ago might not happen now, and might not happen to you also. Just sharing my past bad experience. For oven curing, the painter can either set at a higher temperature and cure for a shorter period of time, or set at a lower temperature and cure for a longer period of time (if I'm not wrong!). So setting at lower temp should not burn up the electronics etc, but it'll take a longer time. Talk to different paint shops and understand their process, and tell them your concerns as well to make a better decision. Advice is to go to a more reputable (but not chop carrot type) paint shop. Or maybe modern tech paints don't need oven baking?? I'm not sure about that.

For me, if matt black, I'll go the sticker route. If Obsidian Black, I'll get it spray paint (again!). BTW, my W204 is Obsidian Black, hehe....
