Has been driving in and out of Malaysia 1001 times in the past 20 over years with age of cars from brand new to 15 years.

Never send car for pre-trip inspection.

Just make sure that tire pressure, oil/water level is right. You may want to keep a bottle of water just in case you need it.

Been driving in and out too in the last 18 years, new and old car. No, never send for inspection.

Thing is, you should know your car well enough lor. If your body is feeling funny, you wouldn't go on a long trip too right? Same goes for your ride, if you are aware that somewhere and some parts which desperately need to be replaced and still take on the road trip, then, you need a contigency plan in place.

Cycle in Malaysia offers road side assistance, IIRC.

If you are not an experienced car owner, no harm sending for formal pre-trip inspection, especially if your car is old or not usually regularly serviced.

Do basic DIY checks at least, top up wiper fluid, check tyre pressure, visual check to see no foreign objects embedded in wheels, wheels still have enough thread, check spare tyre is correctly inflated, toolkit works (last time my wrench did not fit my wheelnuts), check oil level is correct.

Make sure u got some drinking water in the car in case, touch wood, get stranded and need to wait for help to come. Obviously, make sure u got handphone and that it is charged.
