Installing an aftermarket Head Unit

Hello Everyone!

I tried to read up as much from various thread but was not able to get much information.

Just purchased a pre-owned E200 NGT ('06 Model) fitted with what I believe is a COMAND APS NTG1.

I am thinking of replacing the head unit to a Pioneer or Kenwood model.:music:

Reasons for doing this is to have Ipod/Iphone Integration with a Reverse Camera hooked up to it.

Have some question which i hope the gurus in his forum can help out with:

1) Is any reprogramming required?

2) The current system allows you to change radio stations or cd tracks from the steering control. Are there any aftermarket solutions that would allow you to do this after the change? So far I found that only the volume control can be retained.

3) Assuming i go with a Kenwood DNX7360BT, can i 're-use' the existing GPS antenna connection to this HU?

4) Have anyone done this? Which workshop did you go to?

5) Any other advice is greatly appreciated :becky:!

Cheers,

Z

No programming needed

U need a canbus to connect the Kenwood to integrate with your steering controls. How many features are retain - I dunno. Best speak to the installer which I will recommend U!

3) Assuming i go with a Kenwood DNX7360BT, can i 're-use' the existing GPS antenna connection to this HU?

The Kenwood DNX7350BT is a good choice for a after mkt HU replacement. It should comes with its antenna for GPS

4) Have anyone done this? Which workshop did you go to?

2 guys from the forum did this!

1 went to Sam Tan of Swift Motion

The other went to AutoSpritze (Wee Heng)

I would recommend you to AutoSpritze (Wee Heng)

Speak to Ah Boon (81633839-Office hours)

Tell him Seah from Batam refers U!

5) Any other advice is greatly appreciated :becky:!

Thanks All,

Appreciate all the great advice!

This might sound like a really n00b question:

Apart from keep the aesthetics of the interior, what advantages does the NTG2.5 offer over an afternarket HU?

Cheers,

Z

All buttons on steering wheel can be used...aftermarket may or may not be able to control/
