Don't know about 1.8AG but 1.6BE feels underpowerwed when I test drive.

I think it defintely will be, even though power specs are similar. I hv not driven a C180k AG before, but with a bigger displacement, it should be better off the line.

For the BE, once u get going. it's a very decent ride. I look forward to driving it everyday. Challenging myself to hit 650km on a full tank. I hope to do it this time around.

Hi

My 1.6BE is currently travelled around 1.2k. Mileage per tank around 490Km only leh, which is approx 8.2km/l. I travel ard 70% highway. Wonder if its still not run-in yet?

My 2nd tank gave me the same figure, about 480km. I'm back to about 550km before the reserve tank light up. So I suppose I'm doing about 600km/tank or about 9km/l. Some bros here say 'learn to drive your merc'. Works for me.

Any tips on 'learn to drive your merc'? cheers

Here're some tips which I practise.

1. Do not idle your engine while waiting - When engine is idling the FC is >20L/100km - btw it's against the law too.

2. Drive on Comfort Mode - It changes to a higher gear faster than Sport mode

3. Accelerate away "gently" from a standing start especially from traffic lights

4. Maintain correct tyre air pressure - check it almost every week.

5. Try to cruise at a constant speed whenever possibele and avoid brake, gas, brake kinda driving

6. Anticipate traffic (traffic lights, the vehicles infront, etc) anticipate bends, corners, etc) and drive as if your car has no brakes.

Every time U brake is robbing the power of your engine which U had just put in with your foot.

My previous FL W211 avantgarde - 184bhp

At Best

Distance travelled 100km

Average speed 83 km/hr

FC for the 100km distance = 5.6L/100km or 17.8km/L

3725577501_6904930ab5.jpg

Real life for my previous FL W211 E200K

Distance travelled > 10,000km

Average 9.5L/100km or 10.5km/L

Real Life - My previous W203 180ML 143 bhp

Distance travelled = >40,000km

Average 8.3L/100km or 12km/L

Real Life - My current W212 Avantgarde E250CGI 204 bhp

Distance travelled > 10,000km

Average 11L/100km or 9km/L

Nowadays my wife drive more than I do and she does lots of short distance start stop driving.

Best I can achieve while cruising on the W212 is 6.9L/100km or 14.5km/L avg. 80km/hr Tuas to Pasir Ris

its very true.... gentle on the pedal will improve fuel consumption a lot.

i am the impatient type, and my pedal is almost always on the metal.

For testing sake, i tried one tank... only one week... keeping RPM below 2000 where possible. From stationery, i try not to push it pass 3000 .... it was damn hard for me that week. But it paid off.... my FC improved by 1km/L that week. Meaning per full tank of 60L i can get 60km more.

but it kinda rob you off the driving pleasure.... so i just drive as i like... haha!

You heard the man. Bro Kep gave me the same counselling when I first reported poor mileage. Now I'm a convert.

The car seems to learn your driving habits, upshifts now happen at a lower rpm for me.

Gunning for 650km next.

Great writeup Unker!

I used to be quite obsessed with FC some time back, until I did a small test over a week myself:

1. Drive like the car is stolen: about 6.5km/l

2. Drive machiam my right foot is injured: about 8.5km/l

I was pretty impressed by the improved FC by 2km/l. Then I calculate further...

I average about 1500km per month, just daily commute between home and work and weekend outings.

1500km / 6.5km/l = 230 litres

1500km / 8.5km/l = 176 litres

Difference = 54 litres x say $2/litre = $108 PER MONTH.

Ummm, then I suddenly remembered how much I have paid for my car.

Should I save $100 a month, or should I truly enjoy my car????

The rest is history, now I drive a stolen car everyday!!!

My 2 cts, again....
