16 youths attacked by '369' gang members

SIX students have been hospitalised after suffering injuries from yet another gang-related slashing incident.

Seven youths brandishing chopping knives went on a slashing rampage at Bukit Panjang, around 10pm on Monday night.

In a report in Lianhe Wanbao, they were heard shouting gang slogan "369".

This incident occurred at two places: Block 418 and a basketball court next to Greenridge Shopping Centre near Block 524A along Fajar Rd.

According to eye witnesses at the first location, the seven were seen slashing a 20-year-old Indian man, who then collapsed into a pool of blood.

In less than five minutes, witnesses saw them approaching the basketball court, located 400m away.

A group of youngsters were resting after a game and just as they were about to leave, they were approached by the seven, who were holding 20cm long knives.

One of the victims, an 18-year-old polytechnic student known only as Mr Huang, told Lianhe Wanbao: "They pointed the knives at us and shouted '369'.

"They also asked if we are members of 'Pak Hai Tong' and when we said no, they surrounded us and started slashing us."

Pak Hai Tong is the name of a secret society.

He also said that the youngest among them was only eight years old.

According to a reporter from the Chinese daily, a total of seven people were injured and six were sent to hospital. One of them refused to be hospitalised.

The father of the 20-year-old victim who was attacked first, told Lianhe Wanbao that his son was on his way home that night.

His son had also told him that he did not know the members of the gang.

He was found lying motionless in a pool of blood by his friend, a woman known as Ms Chen, who helped him and called the police.

Gang fights

Residents who spoke with Lianhe Wanbao revealed that there have been recent incidents of youths fighting in the area, including on the night of the slashing incident.

Residents also said that they would often see a group of youngsters gathering at the scene of the incident but they did not know what they were doing.

Parents living in the area are worried and one even said: "Why is this happening again? Not long ago, a student was killed at Downtown East and now it's happening here.

"Of course we're worried!"

My sincere condolences to the victims and their families. With God's grace, I pray that these criminals maybe swiftly brought to justice, and our families will not be subjected to such violence.

these attacks are not unusual, many aggravated assaults are just not reported assiduously and accurately.

for real news, journalist should also channel their resources into law enforcing organisations for criminal contamination.

"Low crime doesn't mean no crime". Should be "Unreported crimes doesn't mean no crime" Believing "Ignorance is bliss" is the right policy for the public.

Peace out.

Coffeeshop talk is all the old school heads of 18, 24, 369 sit together at the same table reminiscing of the old days whilst these young kids get into all sorts of trouble.

And it's not as if they are slashing for $$$.

Thoughts these days we see lesser of these gang activities where they hung out in coffee shops. But alas, still rampant man. Put a group of high testoterone teenagers together and a perfect recipe for trouble erupts!

Some years back, 1 of Singapore's local film director, Roystan Tan, made a movie on gangster-ism. Movie's called "15". Here's a clip of it. Enjoy.
