"The YOG has no tangible benefits for Singaporeans and is nothing more but a $387 million dollar "vanity fair" of Dr Vivian Balakrishnan."

And what a sweeping statement that is. Tsk tsk.

First time doing, agreed. Cannot ensure no cock up, agreed. Spending that kind of money, overbudget.. I believe we have proposals, checks and balances, audits over another to curb that right? I believe all of us who have our business would not go over the reds the first time round, no?

DOnt get me wrong, we have done well. But considering that these are your taxes, etc... they should have been better spent with more help given to the poor/needy. And not put to lavish. The organizing team, team singapore has done well, we need to improve on our finances.

Sure.. If it's national day.. I guess it's a different perspective for every individual. To me, no doubt it's a inaugural event.. Singaporean well being should come first.. Imagine just spending 1 million on rnd on our floods and prob my house wouldn't be flooded!! Haha.. Jus to share, the Athens olympics had a fiscal damage of 12 billion... Meaning we are 40 times cheaper. But are we really just 40 times less or lesser in terms of marketing ourselves compared to Athens? It's hard to put a gauge since such effects are intuitive rather than objective.
