Heavy morning storm topples trees across island

Sun, Aug 01, 2010

STOMP

Heavy morning wind and rain sent some trees toppling to the ground across the island today, causing obstruction to many road users as well as affecting many businesses.

This is the downside of having a green city, says STOMPer Roy Tan.

Roy says in an email:

"Four fallen trees/ tree branches made the footpath look like a mini forest.

"One of the trees snapped at its trunk.

"Location: Footpath between Sim Lim Square and Burlington Square.

"Eateries like Fatty Weng Cheong and Hot Spot Cafe affected".

STOMPer eckman88 saw this huge fallen tree at Admiralty Road West.

The road was inaccessible because the tree lay across the road.

He says:

"Fallen tree again, this time it closed the whole Admiralty Road West".

STOMPer Sam was driving to work when he was too, obstructed by a fallen tree near the Marina Barrage.

Sam says:

"I was driving to work at the Marina Barrage when suddenly I saw that I was blocked by a fallen tree.

"It fell due to the heavy rain in the morning I guess.

"I called up the people from the control room, who subsequently called NEA to help remove the fallen tree.

"Oh dear here we go again; Singapore is facing a big problem yet again".

Another STOMPer fastfastmikey also saw a fallen tree at Commonwealth.

The sender says:

"A fallen tree seen at North Buona Vista Road before Commonwealth Avenue West, blocking one of the lanes".

Actually we are quite stuck metaphorically between a rock & a hard place.

We either have super duper Hot/Humid days where we might have water shortages if it's a prolonged spell & many will be sick for air will be polluted with dirt/dust & smoke or cool now but trees falling here & there with some flooding now & then.

However both equally not good but if force to choose, prefer raining daily :becky:
