C204 - differences between the engines? Prices?

What is the difference in driving feel, consumption, power, etc between the 1.8 Kompressor, the 1.6 Blue Efficiency and the current 1.8 Turbo CGI?

In terms of price, can I say the prices are almost similar between a used, say C&C 2008 C180 and a new PI C180 CGI?

Trying to decide which way to go. . . buy used, new C&C or new PI. I am sure some of you has gone through this exercise and may wish to share your findings?

You should test drive both models to feel them. The 2008 C200 is a kompressor model. IMO, the CGI is a better car...no irritating supercharger whinning noise. The tourque for CGI is stronger even though it's only C180, making the car feel responsive.

you should test both. personally i like the supercharger sound. actually after modding its no longer a whine but an aggressive throaty gurgling Some people in MCF have complained about the CGI having lag at the traffic lights even though max tq is at 1.8k rpm

One thing to know, older C180K with 1.6 super charged engine is a downsize from the same well tested old 1.8L engine (which has been around for 4-5 years i think).

BUT, new 1.8 CGi engine , difference is not only turbo vs super charge. But CGI (Charge Gasoline Injection) is also direct injection and variable valve timinig ... about similar with VAG's TFSI, Alfa/FIAT's MultiAir (well about the same ... though Alfa's is slightly more complex, some would say better and more advance) and Ford's new Ecoboost in terms of tech.

Hence, the new 1.8CGI achieved EURO5 emission standard whereas the older 1.6K is EURO4... and newer 1.8CGI is more efficient and powerful.

If you are paying the same amount of money, go for newer tech.

Another thing, if you are buying used now.... beware of the many cars affected by being underwater during this period of flood and rain..... i know i dont want to buy a car which has been under water before.

W204 C180

Mar 2007 onwards - 1.8litre Kompressor engine (same engine as the W203)

June 2009 - Mar 2010 - 1.6 litre Kompressor Blue Efficiency engine

Apr 2010 - 1.8 litre Turbo Blue Efficiency CGI engine

W204 C200

Mar 2007 - Apr 2010 1.8 Kompressor (higher KW)

Apr 2010 - 1.8 Turbo CGI engine (with higher KW) -Blue Efficiency?

Am I right about the engine changes and the time-line?

Thanks!
