C180 and C200 CGI - same engine?

Hi everyone,

I just booked my first merc today - a C180 CGI - arriving in end April.

Just wondered if any of the experts here are able to shed light on a query:

I noticed that the C180, C200 and C250 CGI are all using a 1.8L turbo direct fuel injection engine. Question is, are they all the same engine tuned differently?

If they are, then is it possible to tune my C180 CGI to squeeze more oomph out of it?

Thanks! :becky:

Shoulda bought the bigger engine right outta the box if you want performance otherwise you'll end up spending more to mod your car just to attain the stock performance and risk voiding your warranty. Enjoy your time in sgmerc and welcome !

Yo Bro,

You are right smack on target, engine capacity are same throughout but only mitigating factor is the ECU reprogramming which if am not mistaken, ECU of C180 is locked to prevent tuners fm upping the performance envelope to challenge the C200 or C250 in the power stakes as it'll not be too nice for Merc clients who have bought the C200 or C250 :becky:

C180 Specs Sheet:-

1766 CC, 4 Cylinder, 156 HP, 230NM Torque 2800-4600 RPM

C200 Specs Sheet

1766 CC 4 Cylinder, 184 HP, 250 NM torque @ 2800-500 RPM

C250 CGI Specs Sheet

1796 CC 4 cylinder, 201 BHP @5500 RPM & 310NM torque

Thanks all!

Didn't know they locked the ECU. I know for Audi/VW they can easily ECU flash their engines to get more out of them. I think PA even provides ECU flash from MTM.

Guess 9 sec for 0-100 kph is decent enough la. Anyway, main reason I got the C180 was for the comfort and refinement compared to audi or bmw... just have to keep reminding myself that

Btw, it seems that the specs for the new c180 CGI engine are as follows:

Max bhp: 156 @ 5000 rpm

Max torque: 250 Nm @ 1600 rpm

Basically higher max torque lower down the rev range so pick up is better.

My friends are still giving me the ah pek taunts haha...

Reason being which Audi/VW didn't produce a car with same engine & tranny yet so different performance envelope gulf & not to mention sticker price hence theirs can be more 'willingly' tuned :becky:

Hi, I'm new here. Looking at the specs, is the engine and setup of the c200 cgi the same as the e200? thanks.

btw, I also just booked a c200 last weekend. too preoccupied with the car I was buying, so didn't ask the salesgirl about it.

Nice bro. Guess both of us managed to squeeze in just before they raised prices :becky:

I wanted the C200 too but I guess the C180 appeared better value to me at the price point.

Afraid I can't advise on comparison with the E200 though, seems like the 1.8l CGI engine is very tunable to different specs.

Btw, are you collecting your car in end-April too?

Hi bro

despite the fact that they have restricted the ECU. you can still flash it. gains will only be 6-7 BHP i guess. However, you can bypass this by installing a piggyback ECU so that more parameters can be controlled.

you can change the stock headers as well.

since your new c180 is TC not SC you can up the boost i believe too.

Thanks. I'm not sure if its worth doing it for 6-7 BHP through, maybe I'm greedy. Since this is a new engine, I guess I'll drive it stock for awhile. I'm sure with time, some people are going to find good mods for it. When these come along later, I'll consider it then. Otherwise, I guess the current performance is adequate for 90% of the time.

The one feature that I really feel like installing is the tilt down left side mirror. Only just realised that it is not included. I'm so used to it in my current ride now...

yes thats right because c180 dont have memory package. if you have memory package eg c200 and above this feature will be there

Good for you :)

It's very different between AMG factory fitted and locally fitted...

yup... new C180CGI is 156PS/250Nm and C200CGI is 184PS/270Nm (compared to non CGI's 180 at 230Nm and C200 at 250Nm)

in addition, all 1.8T CGI engines are EURO5 ... whereas the older C180 1.6SC and C200 1.8 SC were only EURO4.

Congrats! .... care to share what's the deal you got? i just collected my C180K BE 6 weeks ago.... so sad to be superseded with newer engines now.... :(
