how many of you actually use the "surround lighting" function? since the front fog lights, side lamps and licence plate light comes on every time you lock and unlock the car...up to 40 sec...will it affect the battery life span? appreciate comments and suggestions from out senior bros...cheers

I have also been using that function since I got the car a year ago. On some occasions people will stop me to tell me that I've forgotten to turn off my lights ;)

Just saw your quote I have been using this feature since day one 3 1/2 years ago and my battery is still strong and i don't think it affect the lifespan...i think for Merc it is OK not sure if Japanese car battery can tahan so long.....

Just got a kind soul remind me that I forgot to off my headlights last weekend...hahah

Anyway, my previous Japanese SUV also has the auto headlight function which also serves as surround lighting - it will light up in dark areas when I on the remote and stay on for 30 seconds (or slightly longer) after I locked the doors...

That battery lasted slightly over 2 years but died just before I was to hand the car over to C&C...grrrrrr

haha..i so get that very often..excuse me sir but i think you forgot to turn of your headlights. I would give a gentle smile and say..thanks but the car knows how to turn it off itself, and i walk away turning back. My gf would often turn ard to see what happens. Apparently people just stand to wait and see if it does go off by itself. Lol. Guess its a cool feature and i doubt it uses much of the batt. The lights were meant for walking you back safely when u park in a dark place. Real cool feature.

was having breakfast with my camp mates this morning, after parking in the rain we ran towards the shelther and a sargent told me, forgot to off your lights?

"oh no, it will turn off by itself" and right on cue it cut off.

much better than the BMW one that requires u to pull the high beam button before u leave the car to activate it...

Oh ok.. 'Coz I noticed that if I leave it at "A"..

At night when it's parked.. one of the red lights near the boot will be lit.

So battery is on all nite.. wouldn't it drained out fast.

are u referring to the parking lights?...

Wah MB Battery can really last so long ah, my old lancer's battery last for exactly 1 year only.

I think cos MB is smart, they put the battery in the boot where is is not so hot compared to the engine compartment in Jap cars
