Hi Guys,

Have just joined SGMERC. Although still new to site, must say you guys really share useful info!

Have also been searching for a car over the pass few weeks, test drove many brands but still like C class best!

Now deciding between CLC180K and C200K. Both are 1.8L but specs different quite a bit, at least in bhp/ torque.

Are they using similar engines?

On pricing, since I don't have a car to benefit from overtrade, does that mean I'll need to pay at list price? That's $156 (C200K) and $136k (CLC180)...

are you deciding between the C-class coupe (CLC) vs the C-class Sedan C200?? Do note that the CLC is based off the W203 platform.... except the exterior is on the w204 look.

you benefit from a updated engine and updated electronics in the c200. it will be everything you expect from a modern mercedes. two extra doors too, convenient for your passengers.

clc wise, you will be using the old chassis and old electronics. (just see where the screen is located, their ideology for such things changed quite a bit) mercedes is just putting a nice shell on everything to cover up its age. but it has great looks!

thks. think the CLC has a great body... wished they had also used the W204 platform- that would be perfect! - but not sure about cost tho...

understand that the current CLC will keep its W203 platform for its remaining ~5 yr life, anyone heard otherwise?

electronics aside, was thinking of tuning up the CLC closer to the C180/200K specs, yet enjoy from coupe body. but not sure how that'd affect the fuel consumption?

SE said they only brought in the CLC180.

also realised that there isn't many CLCs in Spore. does that mean there's low demand? concern about low market value when i want to sell/trade in later...

there's actually a clc 350 in c&c parked at the higher level car park. =P

low demand or little advertising on this model? i suspect the latter. wasn't even aware of the clc until i did a search on sgcarmart and was surprised that a merc coupe came within the price-range.

downside of the little clc on the roads is of cos a lot less mods available. but the upside being that you are driving something unique. still staring at the ass every time i park. hahaha.

+1! If you don't need 4 doors, CLC is a nice, unique and 'affordable' car, nothing comes close at that price range.I'm not sure about what bbwannable said about the old chasis and electronics in the CLC. I've sat in the car many times, and don't find it 'older' compared to my W204.CLC has a lighter body compared to W204, so having a smaller engine might be sufficient for our local roads.Happy choosing!

Before we got our C200k, we tested the CLC180 and the C180k...

Sad to say, the CLC's engine was noticeably less capable than the C180k - probably showing its age...

IMHO, it was a good looking car but lacks the oomph to go along with it...just like what some people are saying about the Kia Koupe :)

Of course, if one wants to stick with the newer W204 chasis, then go for the E Coupe...heheh

hmm i wonder which CLC u had sat in? The CLC is more torquey than the sedan for sure compare with the same engine capacity, probably due to the weight and missing of two doors!!!

The CLC coupe isnt it the same engine with the C180 model, r u referring to the W203 model? As for the looks, i will go for tuscani coupe anytime.

it may shock some ppl to know that for instance, the CLC chassis is the exact same one from W203 (the older C class) instead of the present W204. a fact Minimalism iterated too.

it is also interesting to note that the new e class coupe is using the same platform as the new c class instead of the new e class platform.

hmmm... a good explanation of the age of the electronics in CLC arh...

i think i should get you to sit inside my w203. it was the final batch manufactured. the dashboard/switches/controls are 95% similar to that of the CLC. ditto for the underpinings of the electronics.

twins separated at birth i would say. one grew up to be damn handsome (guess which one. hahaha), one an average joe.

Point noted on the similarity between the W203 and the CLC. It will be interesting to compare a W203 and a CLC parked side by side. But I'm just wondering are there any drastic improvements in the 'New electronics' in the W204 over the 'Old electronics' in the W203? Or it is just a matter of positioning or cosmetics change? And also how is the new chasis compared to the old?.

actually, no surprises about the w203 interior mah. the clc has always been just a facelifted c-class coupe with the dunno simini 1000+ updates. at the end of the day, if one is comfortable with the interior / exterior, that's all that matters. the interior was the main pull factor for me over other cars within the same price range (dun have the plastic-ky feel). the w204 front was the other pull factor... seriously speaking... i hate the ass initially... but after the mods done (no doubt due to staring at blacky's ass all the time and getting poisoned), i find the back really damn fierce.

i was toying with the idea of getting the sedan at one point as well.... but i guess some of you know why this ginna beng ended up with the coupe instead. ;)

btw, comparison between the c200 and clc180 is really not a good comparison. the c200 itself already has a higher hp + more torque..... how to win? throw in the little details like electronic memory seats + auto-close side mirrors + thermometic aircon (or smlj they call it), of cos the c200 win hands down....

then again, u pay for what you get....

w204 chasis much more rigid due to precise use of high torsion steel. electronics more uprated but then again that means higher chance of spoiling

How true is that? Or is it just marketing gimmick? I've nothing against the W204 (I have one too!), but sometimes I feel new models might not necessary be better than the older models they replace. The quality of materials or components used in new models are sometimes inferior to the older models due to cost cutting measures.

My 2 cts.

Yup, refering to the W203 platform

Coupe - it's either the A5 or E-coupe for me next :)

No lah, not comparing the CLC against the C200 but the new C180BE...

Feature-wise, the CLC is better decked out but in terms of performance (engine), still felt that the older 1.8 engine was behind the new 1.6 engine...

Of course, we finally settled on the C200 as you rightly mentioned, it was miles ahead :)
