Expect heavy checkpoint traffic

TRAFFIC flow through the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints is expected to be heavy during the Hari Raya Puasa holiday this weekend.

Traffic build-up will start on Friday for departures, and as families return to Singapore on Monday, roads are expected to be particularly congested.

Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) advise travellers to adjust their plans to avoid the peak periods.

As security is also beefed up at the checkpoints, travellers are also encouraged to maintain lane discipline and to car-pool or take public transport to ease congestion.

For quick immigration clearance, Singaporean travellers can use the eIACS (Enhanced Immigration Automated Clearance System) lanes at the Bus Halls. This will only take 12 seconds and it's free.

Travellers should also ensure that they are carrying their own passports at the checkpoints for efficient clearance and convenience.

They can be informed of the traffic situation in advance in Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints from the Expressway Monitoring and Advisory System installed along AYE and BKE. In addition they can call the traffic information hotline at 6863-0117, listen for traffic conditions on the radio or visit the Land Authority's Transport (LTA)'s One Motoring Website before going off on their journeys.
