not sure this is the right forum so please feel free to move this around... or perhaps the mods can open up a sub forum for interior-related discussions.

anyway, my previous ride came with a reverse camera and it worked really well. i am keen to look at an after market solution for my pre fl w211. i already have a garmin gps so i am not sure about having another lcd on the dash... what do you recommend?

Hello,

Straight off, you can't display the the reverse camera video feed in the Garmin GPS unit. Haha...

Some routes you can go.

1) Purchase the OEM COMAND APS and then get the OEM Reverse Camera + Filter. Cost: $6k odd. =D Upside is you get DVD playback.

2) Find your sales rep from C&C. He can give you a contact for a company C&C used to install their 'authorised' reverse camera. It is basically the same as 3rd option but the colour matches the decor of the Merc. Cost: $900

3) 3rd Party Reverse Camera + Mini 2" LCD. Can be purchased at most audio shops. Cost: ~$300

Enjoy!

To add further to Bro bbwannabe comments!

Garmin GPSr as no input for video or camera for displaying your reverse camera view.

(C & C will not be able to do it for U, U need to get the nearest help from a guy in Australia to come here for the instals) - We got the contacts

2) Find your sales rep from C&C. He can give you a contact for a company C&C used to install their 'authorised' reverse camera. It is basically the same as 3rd option but the colour matches the decor of the Merc. Cost: $900

The installer for C & C is located in Bedok (They do reverse sensor, reverse camera & leather seats for C & C) - I might have the address - I installed my reverse sensors there. It will be about S$700.

It is basically a small LCD screen boxed in and installed on top of your windscreen near to the rear view mirror - no indication of distance

3) 3rd Party Reverse Camera + Mini 2" LCD. Can be purchased at most audio shops. Cost: ~$300

Bro 4eggs aka Allen do sell them if he has stock - about $300 including installation and with distance indications & nite views.

Basically about the same without the "box" and with distance indications

IMHO,

I've installed both local reverse camera/LCD & reverse sensors but I "trust" the reverse sensors better!

U can have my reverse camera/LCD monitor for $120 + uninstallation charges if U want....hehehe!

Picture of my LCD screen - more or less like the C & C local installed monitor except without the "box"

thanks guys!

i am keen to avoid having too many screens in the car but installing the command system is way too expensive. i found a reverse camera-on-rear view mirror solution, comes with bluetooth and an alcohol breathalyzer thingie... what do you think?

Yor,

Wah... don't change wor. Let see what is found in the rear view mirror arh.

1. Auto Dimming Feature. Great feature to have. Useful at night, to avoid blinding lights from tailing traffic.

2. Speed sensitive microphone. Might or might not have, some Mercs have a mic here to help auto-adjust the volume of your stereo. Louder road noise = higher stereo volume.

3. Phone Microphone. Some Merc's microphone for the car phone is found here. Might or might not be.

4. Might not be possible to fit into your car. The connector might not be the usual Jpn snap off connector.

5. Looks nice! Matches perfectly with your interior.
