DIY - W204 Black Grille

Just blackened out my front grille, and so post a DIY here.

1. Get a spare grille (buy from those guys that changed out their stock grille)

2. Take out all the chrome parts:

3. Paint the whole grille black without the chrome parts. You can either DIY yourself, send it for spray painting, or get it powder coated. I got mine powder coated:

4. Put back all the chrome parts into your black grille:

5. Next, open up your bonnet, and remove the original grille:

6. Put in your new black grille:

My picture quality is not so good, can't really see the black. But the difference is quite big if you see the grille itself.

7. Give yourself a good pat for the great achievement on your DIY!!!

Details on how to remove the grille and fixing it back on can be found here:

Thanks to Cerano for selling his grille to me.

Thanks to Blackmercs for picking up the grille for me, and posisoning me to go for this mod.

Thanks to my good friend for getting the grille powdercoated for me.

BTW, taking out and putting back the chrome bits and also the grille itself is not easy. Need to see and feel carefully where to pull and where to push, and a lot of guesswork in between. Having completed the DIY, I kindof know how to do it properly now. If any bros wanna do this DIY and need my help, just pm me.

Hope you guys enjoy my cheapo mod!

Thanks guys!

Blackmercs and Darkavenger (and any other bros here), let me know if you need help to dismantle and install, I should be able to manage it.

Very satisfied with the DIY. Was initially thinking of just buying a grille off the shelf, but eventually gone the DIY route for some fun! It's an interesting process, and getting you excited along the way, and the big grin on your face when you've finally done it yourself!

hmm, i was thinking to save cost... maybe i can powdercoat the whole thing to have the stealth look instead of CF?

how much ur friend charge?

My friend didn't charge me for it cos his my old friend, but took quite a few days though, FOC so can't chase....

If you want, take a look at mine first and see if you like it first. Then I'll check with my friend whether he can do another one or not.

Bring along your spare grille with you if you're going to meet me, don't have to run another trip if you wanna get it done. Oh, better let me know before hand also, I don't drive the merc often. I will be sending it to First Auto Venture for polishing tomorrow though.

Thanks for all the compliments! Aiyah, me only do semi-DIY, didn't do the full DIY and paint the grille myself! Not brave enough to do it. It will look very ugly if you don't know how to paint it properly.

After taking out the grille and chromes etc etc, now my kio-ing skill improve a lot lio. Who wanna kio their grille let me know! Ha ha!

Yes, SS Tay and his gang is good, been taking very good care of my darling since the day she's born! There's always a big grin on my face when I collect my darling from his shop, they never fail to impress me each time!
