Bro Allen,

IMHO,

2 to 3 years abt. time to change battery.

Price will depend on brand.

The last time my W203 car battery died suddenly.

I called AA! They changed on the spot with German battery Hoppecke - abt. $200+

BTW - Varta batteries - now no more German company but belongs to the USA Johnson Controls. ;D

My observation so far is when the car takes longer than usual to crank the engine, it's a signal that the battery will die anytime.

Bro Cklasse,

U are correct when the battery is coming to end of life.

However like in my previous W203 battery, the battery (around 2 years+) died suddenly.

This is an indication of internal short circuit within the battery.

So sometimes, the battery can go dead suddenly without any warning sign.

When we were driving with manual cars and battery gone dead, we can push start

the vehicle & drive to go to the nearest tire shop to buy a new battery.

If late at night we can park on a slope and the next day, roll the car down to start the car.

Too bad we cannot do that for our Auto rides other than a few options

a. Call AA if U are a member, if not an AA member call a friend who is an AA member to come to your rescue

b. Leave the car and go and get a new battery.

c. Call someone to bring you a new battery or jump start your car.

Imagine if the car cannot start when it's parked in a forest reserve or dimly litted place....hehehehe! :evlaugh:

one incident - the battery 'exploded' !!! - open the bonnet and see the battery 'bloated' at the sides ... no warning ...

another incident - stranded at Pasir Ris Farmway for 2 hours ... :(

but if battery died at night ... then prepared to pay extra if not AA member ... sure kenna 'chop' ...

it think a rough gauge would be poor cranking and/or 3 years or so ....

sometimes worthwhile to change for peace of mind than kena stranded when u need the car most !

bro, i'm almost hitting 40k & have not change it yet............

Your ride 1 yr+ still young mah!

My W203 battery kaput when it was abt 3 yrs. old.

Bro Allen,

Battery is used to start the engine only and mileage is no real indication of usage or when to change.

Pobably the guy who told U 20K km estimate probably based mileage 10K km/yr and 20K km probably 2 years.

IMHO, our car battery "if all things being equal" should last more than 2 years +

sometimes really duno when the battery will up lorry, coz my Pre FL E200K 5 years liao battery until now still going strong.

It's all depend on the kind of usage of the battery, quality of the battery, the cycle life of the battery, the self discharge of the batery, etc.,

5 years is a long time for a battery to survive....hehehe!!!

Hope your new ride battery will survive that long too. ;D
