Hi everyone, the COE of my w204 c200k would be expiring in Feb 2018, current mileage is 131,000km and parf is about 23k. I am deciding if I should renew my COE or buy a new car. Went to C&C today and tested the new C180 which felt pretty good. Tested the BMW 216d as well which surprisingly surpassed my expectations. So far, my car has not been giving me any major problems except for the green key problem a year ago :(. The rest is pretty much wear and tear. If I am buying a new car, emotions are pointing me towards the new C180 but logic is pointing me towards the 216d (5 years warranty & servicing + diesel savings). If I am renewing COE, I am kinda worried about my car breaking down often thus increasing maintenance costs. Any advice guys?

Renew will be lower cost of operation especially ur car millage is so low. My 4th yr this yr already 135k haha

My brother 2003 W203 body value $28K

COE renewal for 10 years during early 2013 was $90K and forgoing the body value = $118K or $11.8K/yr depreciation and not taking into account higher road tax from 11th to 15th year.

He took back his $28K for the body and buy an used 4+ years old PI W204 for $100K less his car body $28K he paid $72K for his car.

Not forgetting the 2nd hand car bought still has a scrap value of >$16K+

So the final $ outlay is $72-$16K = $56K over 5+ years or <$10K/yr

He's happy he is getting a W204 with better features and not his old W203 so it's a no brainer for him not to scrap his car.

So end of the day, consider the following

1. Scrap value of your car to forgo

2. Renewal for 5 years or 10 years $$$

3. Expect higher maintenance for >10 yr old car

4. Slightly higher road tax from 11th to 15th year at 10% increment/year

5. Are you concern about depreciation $$$ or you prefer a newer car.

So does it boils down to $$$ & Cents or What do you actually want - Lup your old car, looking for another 2nd hand car or a new car.

Cheers

I'm a MB Whore! :)
