DSLR Users Beware...

So what's this write up all about ?

Was blissfully perched on the steps opposite Suntec taking some sunshine, mind (and body) skiving. Good day to take the camera out for a short session to polish up my pan and shoot.

Was happily snapping away at Suntec traffic when my viewfinder suddenly went black. "Seow leow lah!", I thought to myself. This bugger of a camera was a fairly recent purchase so my alarm bells were sent ringing big time. I tried snapping some images again (maybe I shouldn't have done that) coz I thought maybe the aperture blades on my lenses were stuck. Did a playback and saw that the camera captured an image with a "ghostly" feel..

No no, nothing supernatural here. I lay my camera flat on the viewfinder's back and removed the lens gingerly.....

Lo and behold, the freakin mirror got dislodged!! Sonofagun!! I'd never expect this to happen to a cam in this class. Even my old 300D NEVER GAVE ME ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN 4 YEARS!!!!!!!

Tmrw going Canon hospital. Sniffles. I hope I didn't damage anything internal........

Just wanted to share with all you DSLR users in case you ever experience something similar (which I hope you will never...)

Hey g8crasher, my heart goes to you! But i don't think you'll change to a Nikon cos what's gonna happen to all your lens?

Leon , i am waiting.........

Haiyoh.... tsk tsk..

I just came back from CSC (Canon Svc Ctr). Tech told me its a common problem and they will add 2 stoppers to prevent this from happening again. Sent in for svc since it's gonna be sitting there. Ready next week. Use then see how hehe..

Mmm.. I guess I'll wait for the supposed Nikon D400 or D800 then decide what I want to do :bboyspin:

The cam is back from Canon!

It has been modified with 2 additional stoppers & given a cleaning FOC.

This is the 2nd time I've had a camera sent in to Canon Svc Ctr that has been serviced and repaired FOC even though warranty has long expired!

Excellent service and support.
