Recommended Posts

Hi all merc bros and sis,

This morning i just tried start my car and dashboard totally no lights and no cranking sound. I have tried jump start and it didnt work too. My ride is c180 2010 cgi. Is this the green key issue? Only c&c can repair right? Cost about $1800? Aprreciate if someone can advise me. Thanks

Usually when we insert the key.. there is a sound.. is there a sound?? If no sound, most probably is steering wheel lock.

Mine failed me on 9th June...send in same day.. collected the next day.

Hi fabiantan,

No sound when i insert the key. Interior got lights though and I can still use my remote key to lock and unlock. When I insert key in, there is no sound. And there is no dashboard indication when I turn all the way to the right. Only can see the mileage thats all. How much is the repair cost?

i have the same issue this morning. driving a w204

thought i need a tow, so took public transport send my kid to parent home, rush back intending to tow car.

surprisingly the car can now turn on... after 2hrs

but quickly drive to workshop (parallel import) , claimed no issue, "begged" them to check properly as need the car to transport my folks, cannot afford to break down

error is power sterering malfunction

light can on, but no cranking, understand its a safety feature

research online, try to turn off car 5-10 min totally and restart

for model 2015 theres a recall in germany to upgrade software apparently to resolve same issue for c300 and c400

bro,

there are 2 batteries for merc. One located in front and one at the back. the one in front inside the engine compartment is for starting the car. life span of battery usually about 14 to 18 months. The one in the boot lasts slightly longer, about 24 months (cost also higher).

one tell tale sign of weak battery is the sudden diming of lights (head lights, etc) and then, may be, when you crank or turn the key or press the keyless go, response is usually a bit delayed or couple of cranks before engine starts. when any of these two happened, chances you have a weak battery. Otherwise, the battery can suddenly dies without further ado.... :startle: speaking from (bitter) experience...

Hi,

Seems like the boot battery is AGM type, which is meant for Start-stop application ..

I think PFL W204 does not have the secondary boot located battery, it's only for FL W204, which come with start-stop function .

cheer...

  • 3 weeks later...

photo of the battery

Bro, the battery in the boot is for the start-stop eco function. It shouldn't impact your cranking by right. Mine is also dead but I am not intending to replace it since I do not use the start-stop function anyways.

Bro, I think there battery located in the trunk/boot not only supply electricity for start-stop eco function, it also supply to: BAS / ESP / ETS and, I believe, windows and sunroof, if any. :phew:
