What are popular rims for Merc?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I would like to ask which are the popular brands of rims for Merc?

I am thinking of change my stock 18" rims (CLA 180) with run flat tyre to aftermarket lighter rims and normal tyre.

Budget up to $600 per rim. Want light and good looking rims but cannot afford forged rims. Hahaha...

BBS, OZ, ... Etc?

Please advise.

What are you thinking of changing to 18' or 19'?

At your budget and requirement, you can look at oz racing leggera HLT (8.3kg) pair with GY F1 A3. Depending on the condition of your existing rim, you could ask for a trade in for the new rim, that will cushion some of the pain...

I was looking at Volksracing G25, but change my mind when I saw the oz racing leggera HLT, not because it is better than G25 but the price different is too huge....

The pic I took at LS also. Hahaha

LS trade in price for my stock rim w tyres only $1K. SE tyre and Hurry tyre quoted me $1400 ~$1500.

IMHO all these trade in gimmick is BS, they mark up higher and offer higher trade in for your existing rim. One way to find out to you have a fair deal is to identified a rim you like and shop around for the best price and trade in each shop can offer. During my hunt, I went to both LS and Hurry, both offer me the same trade in value for the rim I'm looking at. In the end I went to LS not becos it's cheaper or better, becos they nearer my home.

I have been going back to LS to change tyres also recommending frens to LS when they wanna change tyres.

SE tyre few years ago I changed my Bridgestone tyre cos they are like the Bridgestone pit stop. The boss also friendly.

I have not been to Hurry tyre yet. Will drop by to see see one day.

What tyre profile you had on your W205?

I too was changing my rims (BBS) and tyres with SE tyres for many years until I recently switched to LS because they have the rim I want.

Can't remember my tyres profile now...maybe I will check later. But I do remember I used a higher profile tyres (45)...which is more expensive ($260/pc) compare to lower profile (40) which cost cheaper ($190/pc)

In general are the BBS rims much heavier than the OZ rims?

It's depend on the model you select. Their forged series from Japan is very light but cost more...very much more. I personally like the RI-A series, which cost $1200/pc (18'). If you stretch your budget a bit more, you can look at Volksracing G25 which cost $850/pc weigh about 8kg, I find the quality very good. Next you can also look at prodrive GC-05k cost $800/pc weight about 8.3kg.

OZ leggera weight about 8.3kg not forged cost significant lesser...

I was using BBS CS series on my previous ride, flow forming..I think more than 9kg but damn solid..used it more than 5 years...

I thought conti car match with Japanese rims maybe not look so solid.

Your OZ rims looks nice. I am consider BBS too. I associate Merc with BBS rims.

Your BBS CS is two tones with multi spoke design?

It's personal preference, to me I don't care whether it's Japanese, Italian or German brand rim as long you like the design it's suitable for your car moreover nowadays all main stream rim design more or less look the same IMO.

My BBS CS is silver.

Usual suspect Leong Seng and Hurry Tyres. Try looking at the OZ web first and asked them whether they can get from stockist if they don't have it on display.
