A man, in his late 30s, hurled verbal insults and showed STOMPer Nick and his wife the finger for no apparent reason at the basement carpark of Far East Plaza. The STOMPer sent in a video of the man's bizarre behaviour.

In his email to STOMP today (Jan 13), the STOMPer recounted:

“On Sunday (Jan 11) at about 4.35pm, my wife and I were walking down the staircase to the basement carpark of Far East Plaza when we heard someone behind made a catcall at us.

“We turned around and saw a man, who appeared to be in his late 30’s and accompanied by a woman, staring at us.

“After staring at us for a few seconds, he starting shouting vulgarities and challenged me to a fight for no apparent reason.

“Taken aback by his violent behaviour, which does not befit a man of his age but rather at least someone half his age, we walked away from the couple feeling baffled as my wife and I had done absolutely nothing to provoke the seemingly deranged man.

“His companion seemed embarrassed by his actions as she walked quietly beside him in short but quick steps.

“As we walked to our car and further away from the couple, the man continued to taunt us with his challenges and laughed in a hysterical manner with a voice that sounded like a woman or perhaps even a hyena.

“I ignored his challenges as I do not want to get involved in a fight for no apparent reason and put my wife’s safety at risk.

“We continued to ignore him, got into our car and proceeded to drive out of the carpark. As we drove out of the carpark and were waiting to turn into Scotts Road, the man drove his red Mercedes beside us in the two-lane driveway, unwound his window, and pointed his middle finger at us.

“I managed to take a short video clip of the man in his act as both our cars were stationary for a brief moment while we waited for the traffic to clear in order to turn into Scotts Road.

“My wife and I were truly stunned by the man’s action as we wondered why a man driving such a car would behave in such a childish and uncivilised manner for no reason.

“In fact, when I whipped out my handphone to record his actions, he seemed to have held his middle finger out of the window longer on purpose for ‘extra airtime’.

“We came to the conclusion that the man must be mentally unsound. I seriously think his family should send him to an institution for psychiatric assessment lest he poses a danger to the public with his childish and antagonistic behaviour.”
