2007 E230 or S300 - advice and opinions please

Hi everyone.

New to this forum. Never had a MB before. Had been on the Volvo/Audi route all this time.

I was looking to replace my 10 year old car. And was considering either a 2007/8 E230 or 2007/8 S300 with the intention of extending the COE when it comes to 10 years for another 10.

Do you guys think that is a logical idea?

Between the 2, I gather that the S300 would need more work done, given the suction doors and hydraulic system etc. I would assume petrol consumption would be more as well, no to mention the road tax.

Any idea what I am looking at in the upkeep between the 2?

Reliability and safety are key considerations for me.

What you you guys advise? Any pointers or things to look out for would be much appreciated.

The E230, has the issue of timing gear, hopefully if would had been replace, if not it will be costly.

S300, yes you are correct on the suction doors and hydraulic systems... but once these are settled, it's so lovely to drive them

If cost is not much of an issue then the S class would be a nicer keep but its downsides are the 50% surcharge on road tax on its 15th year and of course more electronic systems that could go wrong. 

if you're intending to flog it off on the 15th year then the E230 would make more sense as it could be easier to sell. 

though i think the best advice is... choose the one that will make you feel the happiest.... no use purchasing the E230 and always wondering what the S300 might have been like...

you can also consider the E280

same engine as the S300L, but on w211 body
