Does V-Kool affects radio signal?

Hi Bro and Sis,

Read somewhere that the radio was affected after installing some solar tint.

Like to check with you guys who are on V-Kool if this really happens.

BTW, mine is a W203 C.

TIA.

Yes it does. It affects all electromagnetic transmission including Infra red, car key, IU, etc etc.

This is most significant if you are using the VK series films which has metallic oxide powder embedded within.

If you use the J series, than it is no different any other film as it is pigment based.

Thanks bro for the advice.

Called them and they told me radio so far nobody complain. However, they do admit that some modls of GPS may not work and have to cut a hole.

Will pay them a visit next week and if install will let the forum know of the result.

Cheers!

Bro, most merc uses the rear windscreen heater coil as the radio antenna. And in most Vkool packages, this pc of glass will be plastered with a VK70 film. The second highest grade behind VK40. You will notice more static in your reception once it is pasted up. The effect is not immediate though.

IMHO, for VKool films it is VK series or dont bother. Vkool is well known for its metallic based film.

For my GPS, I run an external antenna hidden beneath the windscreen wiper nozzle. For my proximity car park transponder, no choice but to wind down window.

PS: The one in Bt Batok is extremely competitively priced. ;D

For W203, they normally recommend you Vk75 or J83 all round and maybe VK70 rear.

Wow...thanks bro, didn't know that the rear deminister heating coil is the antenna. Was wondering where it is located? :D

Going to the Bt Merah Br. Thinking of usng X75 for front and V70 for back.

So I assume you are on v-kool itself. Is the radio static really that bad?

Cheers!

Why not try 3M all my 3 cars has been using 3M,

For the same light transmition ,

I believe 3M has a higher InfraRed rejection compare to Vkool

3M has got 99%UV rejection fro both front and rear

and 97% IR rejection for front and 98% IR rejection for rear.

and has no problem with radio and GPS and IU

Ditto too.. have been using VKool for all my cars all along.

RedDevils: Static not that bad but can be irritating at times. I dont seems to have good karma for radio reception. Even with the Blaupunkt Bremen MP74 dual antenna, my FM reception has static. DAB will be a different story though. Hiaks.

Hmm... 3M, bro you got the film model number ?

Hi bro,

one more question. Does the v70 affect your anti-glare rearview mirror at night?

Cheers!

Hi,

I am planning to put on 3M premium package for the M Class. Can you PM me how much you paid for your car's 3M too?

I was told that 3M is Multi layered vs. metal based, hence have no problems with any signal or transmission unlike metal based films where you need to cut to clear the signal for IU, GPS, Etc.

I also wanted to install tints that are a little darker than the approved LTA films, was wondering how strict LTA is on implementing this ruling.

Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Sorry bro.. cant really help but AFAIK no it doesnt. Cant help u on this because I installed the permanent rear merc blind on my car.

Err, I think it depends which inspection centre you go too. mine borders just below the limit. Personally I prefer it as light as possible because at night will be a living hell for me. Maybe I am old.

For my rear passenger door, I installed the merc permanent blinds to block out curious eyes. Mainly because got kids jumping ard in the car.

my is the premium model.( I think so)

99% UV rejection for both front and rear

97% IR rejection for Front and 98%IR rejection for rear (the rear is slightly darker)

I forgot whats the light transmition , but I remember its the max that LTA can accept.

I never hav to pay for the 3M films on all my 3 cars, cos I always get the car dealer(salesperson) to pay for it

U can do it at

50 Ubi Ave 3 #04-08

Mark Tan

96880750

I believe the price should be around $800

( I remember its call the premium model, or if not , its the highest/top spec in the 3M films)

If u are being told my LTA to remove the films due to being too dark,

and if u use 3M films , it would be easy to remove them and would not damage the rear screen heating wire.

For Some other brands, its more costly/expensive to remove the film than to install them, cos those brands are very sticky and will remove/damage the heating wire.

and would also leave a layer of sticky residues on the window (thats it would cost more $$$ to remove the residues, as more time is require)

OK, some update.

Install the v-kool today. Only able to install X75 on windscreen and V70 for the behinds. Sad to say, the front windows have to get the lower grade film as even the x75 cannot pass the VLT (68.5%).

Overall, good workmanship and cooler interior. Radio so far not affected. Rearview mirror anti glare also working.

Cheers!

From what I have read, your recommendation is to use the VKseries for good effect?

Can you give me the address of the one you used? Is the workmanship good?

Regards,

Kai :)

Yeah that's right. The metallic based ones. I think they have re-branded the film to some new terms.

Sorry I dont know the shop name cuz I call, they come collect car, & return car. Got problem/issue, they come collect, redo & return.

I think u can check up VKool's official franchise list. They should be there. I recall the chap being Alvin.
