Mercedes coolant - need urgent help/info

Recommended Posts

As I was cleaning my engine bay n accidentally screw up the engine coolant.

Now the reserviour is empty. I need to top it up. Do our regular mercedes spare guys sells them like surpass auto ? Do I need to mix water to it or the oringal coolant is pre-mix ? Do I need to use distill water ? It is recommended to mix the existing coolant with good pre mix coolant like the Toyota long life type ?

any advice/info will be appreciated .. Need to do it by tmr

Regards

LZ

For fluids, best go with Mercedes produced products. Coolants, brake fluids, etc. They spend a million dollars a day on research, you just can't beat that.

You will need to mix with water. I can't remember the ratio but when you buy it from PAS Auto (my new favourite Merc parts store) or Goldenlink or any Mercs part shop, you can ask them nicely. Or walk by any workshops and they should be nice enough to tell you.

While it is preferably to use distilled water, no one in Singapore does it. Not using distilled water means higher chance of algae etc which causes blockages but I have yet to see that happen to any car in Singapore. So... just get use tap water. If you like, you can boil the water first haha...

Ok bro .. Thx .. I just hope surpass auto has it .. One stop for me to buy the parts n fix my car n top up the coolant ..

Btw I broke the return line of the coolant to the reservoir .. Careful cleaning around that area .. It quite headache cos car can't drive after that .. No cooling to engine

I suggest that u tow the car to the workshop and better get a coolant flush.....safer.....But i think only stockist and workshops that service Mercedes will carry these Mercedes coolant

The world Most dangerous thing is the Vehicle. Its not about the machine weather its slow or fast. Its the person who is controlling it. The driver is the brain of the Machine. Not the machine itself.

If the driver reacts slow even the most powerful ABS(Auto braking system) will not help. The driver has to give the car the command in Order for the car to react. Afterall he is the brain of the car.

thx for those who helped.. i have free coolant if you need  ... :)

problem solved. $40.00

Taxi fare to and from stockist - $20.00

Parts (Plastic adapeter) - $9.00

Coolant, Mercedes equivalent - $11.00

Workmanship - DIY, FOC

Advice for those with 6 years or more c class .. check the return hose plastic adapter towards engine side on your coolant reserviour. Mine was totally degraded, by merely cleaning it, it broke. Preventive maintenance is cheap. Even a tow to workshop is more than $40.00. Imagine in Malaysia.

cheers

hi Ferris .. as requested. It is actually a plastic adapter which is connect to the hose. By removing the metal clip, the adapter can be remove easily from the hose with some force.

Mine broke off at the"A" area but there is another similiar adapter at "B". I changed both since it cost only $9.00 each.

Just to correct what i said, it is actually the cooling system return line. But still a critical component. Any breakage along this return line will drain off coolant when the cooling system hit its maximum pressure.

hope this can provide some useful info to fellow C class owners.

regards

lz

Hi Solar,

Your workshop is not wrong to advise a complete change of rubber parts but then again by doing so, it cost quite some $$$ and also make the workshop's job easier, so they don't need to use skill to determine which hose is the culprit whenever there is a check engine light appearing.

So the cheaper way is to go to a experienced Mercedes workshop and change out those few pipe that always gives trouble.

Mine broke off at workshop too...workshop asked me to change the whole tube instead of just the adapter...omg...i was charged $75...damn

wah, u kena chop leh

the tube + both end connectors only about $20+ if buy from stockiest

connector only $9

I still dun understand why MB must design it that it get in the way and break easily

I broke the job at the reserve tank, then broke the connector, then broke the connect the other end, then change the whole tube bcos cannot get the broken connector out

haha....
