Looking to get 2009 C180 or C200, what to look out for?

Hi all

Am looking to purchase a 2009 C200 or C180 (budget ~100k) in the near future, so I'm doing some homework beforehand. Hope you guys can share your experiences:

1. What are the main things to look out for when looking at used Mercs?

2. What are the frequently worn or expensive to replace parts which I should be aware of when looking over the cars?

3. What are some of the recommended workshops for MB in Singapore with reasonable prices, and how much would a regular servicing cost? (My Honda usually in the region of $200, as a comparison)

Thanks!

Accident damage, signs of neglect in keeping to servicing schedule, ANYTHING electronic related problems, gearbox, steering, brakes. Basically get it inspected before you plonk your $$ down.

Brakes disc and pads, engine and transmission mounts, drive belts

Too many to list bah just go check the site sponsors they all specialize in mercs. Normal servicing costs approx $380-450+ deoending on what youre doing for the car. Cheapskate like me loves to go stockist buy all the necessary stuff and bring to ANY workshop and have them iservice the car labour normally $40-50. Go read the threads here plenty of info on servicing and so on.

Calvin has very much answered ur questions.

If I may share me experience.

My 09 c200k is at 120k mileage. I have changed shocks and disc and pads at 70;engine mounts at 100k;( have been advised to change some ecu. Harness etc recently but holding on)

Regular serving for oil is closer to 200. ( used to patronize chip soon at tampines) Once we add on the rest like cabin filter etcis about 3 plus. With older cars; is inevitable we gotta change some parts. I used to buy parts from stockists and the savings are wonderful.

Enjoy the car.

1. You can check out this video on youtube. Though the car you are buying is much newer than in the video, I think it is still very informative to know.

2. The worn parts that you can visually inspect are tyres, brake pads, wipers, seats, interiors and electronics. Those you can't really see unless you have good experience are battery and fluids.

3. I came from a Honda Jazz and I can tell you that be prepared for double of what you pay in maintaining Honda, at least! :) Not only maintenance, but operating/running cost goes up as well.

All the bros here have given you valuable informations. Some may find that the cost is higher compare to their previous rides which depend on what your previous ride is. But end of the day, it's a Mercs and you will be driving one of the best automobile brand in the world. Just enjoy your ride. Maintenance costs is part and puzzle of owning a car.

For me i'm not sure if it's a downgrade or upgrade but I save a lot from changing to a Mercs from road tax to insurance to maintenance cost as my previous ride is a STI. I may miss the G-force of the STI but sure enjoy the comfort and quietness of a Mercs. You can't go wrong with a Mercs!
