Hi All,

Looking to buy a C-class to replace my current ride and found a good deal but with high mileage. (21/2 years car)

I have a few question to seek the advice from all the gurus here:

1. What is the risk to buy a used C180ML with 95K mileage?

2. What is the maintenance cost involve for such a high mileage vechicle?

3. I own a Japanese car which need to change timing belt at 80k-100k mileage. Merc is running on timing belt or timing chain?

4. What is the cost for major servicing and change timing belt?

Appreciate all the input and help from gurus here.

Thanks.

1. What is the risk to buy a used C180ML with 95K mileage?

My W203 C180 has clocked 130000km in 4.5 years. Risk? Zero. Go through the maintenance history of the car, if it is done periodically, I don't see any problem with the car. 2.5 years and 95000 km means it is still under C&C warranty.

The transmission oil should have been changed at about 60 to 70k km.

I had only changed my brake pads and front disc (due to worn pad, cannot trust the pad sensor). No other major repair so far.

2. What is the maintenance cost involve for such a high mileage vechicle?

Not high. Go to our resident workshop and you get 20% off labour charge.

3. I own a Japanese car which need to change timing belt at 80k-100k mileage. Merc is running on timing belt or timing chain?

Anyone wants to answer? I think it is timing chain.

4. What is the cost for major servicing and change timing belt?

So far nothing heard about timing belt change. I changed my front brake disc, brake pad, transmission oil and servicing for about $800 (not in MBM but elsewhere before joining the club).

The car has been very reliable other than the usual battery failure. Hope this help. :spiderman:

Hi Cklasse,

Thanks for your input, I will go and test drive the car first before making any decision. The car look good through with minor paint chip off and interior look well maintainance. The dealer told me because the high mileage that why can get a good deal. My current ride was clocking 45k per year so think will clock at around 200K two years later if getting the high mileage car.

I can only comment until this point of 130000 km and I am not sure about what is ahead for me too. I think the next major maintenance for my car would be the transmission oil change again and probably a end of life cat.

There are a few lower mileage, newer C180 in SgCarmart which you may want to take a look.

bro, you may want to check the engine mounting to see whether it is worn out and need replacement. a worn out engine mounting will cause the car to vibrate.

I dont know what is the $$$ you are paying but i think the 95K mileage wont save you more than $5K on the price right?

One of our new member recently comparing a few car which i know of,

1) 3/06 C180 @ $97K mileage 45K omv 38K

2) 6/06 C200 @ $103K mileage 30K omv 51K

In terms of money worth, i think the C200 is a better buy as the omv is higher by 13k.

Hope this do help, there is also a 2006 C180 own by a SE in Cycle for sale too.

As what i think, cheaper by only 4K not worth taking the 'risk' bro, Such high mileage mean very very often NSHW, high speed long hour ....... My 2nd car, 4 year old, often NSHW too, done only 62K on mileage.

Test drove a C180 last week. The engine got the "tot tot" sound when idling but disappear when moving. Any brothers here got this type of experience before? The agent told me is the belt problem and can be solve easily but I thought with his "sale talk".

Not yet bro, SE said he will come down my place when he has the time. Although I notice that the sound only comes up after the car warms up and you come to a stop. There wouldn't have a sound right after you on the engine, only after moving about and stopping at the red light etc..
