I will claim. What if touch wood something happens when the windscreen is not replaced properly? Insurance company will not lift a finger since it's not done by authorized personnel.

Check with CnC how long the replacement will take, autobacs need to compensate u for loss of car use.

Last but not least, there will be this gluey smell for a couple of week after windscreen is replaced, very irritating!

You have a point too. I think no matter Wat I still have to inform my insurer of this happening... just in case they do half past six replacement.. then I'm screwed too... Sigh...

CnC SA will contact your insurance Chartis before they proceed for the repair!

All they need is for you to sign the report!

Mine was easy though the chip on my windscreen happened a year before sending it for repair (sgmerc 1st drive to Malacca)

SA: When did it happen

Me: DDMMYYY

SA: Where and how did it happened?

Me: I was driving along ECP suddenly I heard a loud noise and saw the crack on the windscreen.

SA: OK sign here!

IMHO

At CnC You will be sure U are getting original parts and done by the people trained to repair your MB.

Even if I have to pay the $100 +$7, I will still do it at CnC.

Cheers

Hi guys...

its a bad friday for me.. went to autobac ubi and replace a wiper.. one of the staff offer to help with the replacement and while doing so the metal rod slips from his grip and lash back onto my windscreen. Result in a "starburst" cracked followed by a running 20cm "line" crack.

wah i damn angry... the staff went up and call his assistant store manager down to survey the damage. he claimed that it was their fault and that they will replace the windscreen for me with the tinting. I agree to it and told them that i do not require any other form of compensation other than what was due to me.

This assistant manager said he will arrange the windscreen replacement guy to replace for me by Monday.

But strange enough they call me today again and said they will try and repair??? im not exactly a "glass" expert, but can a long line cracked and starburst cracked is repairable?

i have already drop an email to them via their feedback column in their website. i told them if what was promise was not done by Monday or to a resonable level of satisfaction, i would seek recourse through the legal system.

I just wan to know what if they chut pattern and replace a windscreen that is in lower quality or in anyway inferior to what we have on our ride now? can i check the standard of the windscreen?

They even have the cheek to ask me if i can claim my insuarance for the "$100" replacement and they pay me back $100??? i only look at him and ask him if he eat too full....

Dear Bro,

I think i was at autobac when your case happened.... anyway here are my expereince to share with you:

1) Autobac is "generally" fine except for small issues that happen from time to time. (I also have had a bad experience with them but was resolved thru close door negotiation) Hence from my past expereince, no legal or police issues need to be involved. You just need to discuss with their management. Escalate your concerns if you need to. clsoe the case through actual actions and writing.

2) Replacement of windscreen is done at apointed workshops. I replaced my BM windscreen after 3 months of ownership the last time. Not sure with C&C, but even Pml also get subcontractors (the appointed workshops) to replace the windscreen when cars goto Pml. So it is the same thing if you go to your insurance workshops. The glass quality is not inferior to the original base on visual inspection. (noone will be able to tell the actual quality as both the original cracked glass and the replaced glass look the same and bore the same brand, quality assurance markings etc. The downtime to replace the windscreen is about 2 hours.

3) Cracks can be repaired as some brothers already explained. If Autobac is willing to bear the cost of repair then specify a good windscreen specialist to do the job. The windscreen repairer can warrant the professional job for at least 1 year.

Hope my 2 cents can help you. If you need more information and assistance, drop me an email and i see if i can help you.

Cheers

Windscreen claims excess $100 or $0 depends on your policy. Usually unlimited with auto reinstatement.. If you take in-house insurance, go back to CnC. Otherwise check if your policy is "authorised workshop" or "any workshop". Authorised workshop, u can only go to the listed workshop on your policy. Insurance claims only cover windscreen, no tinting costs will be paid if I remember correctly.

Do seek your insurer opinion if you should claim under your policy in such a case or what you should do. They would be in a better position to advice IMO.

Could very well have gold inside. The SLK has heating elements and radio/GPS antennae embedded in the glass.

I recently got hit by a stone chip and had to replace my windscreen.

My car is non-C&C but honestly it doesnt matter.

1) I called my insurance agent, they advised that i have 1 free per annum (Heng ah! :D )

2) they gave me a list of workshops, one was at sin ming so i called to make appointment

3) Sent the car down took under 1 day to do it (left at 10am, by 1-2pm done already) then they will also offer you tinting at a small fee.

4) As they didnt have the colour i wanted i went to infratint.

My advise is, before you do anything, make them sign on a document, (be it in the capacity of AutoBac's employee or as anindividual) that they acknowledge that it is 100% of their fault and will make amends inclusive of tinting. With this in hand then you can go seek your options. I would suggest you call your insurer and check how much it will cost you. Else you tell them you replace the window yourself and tinting, but to be fair to them show them a quotation first (up to u this part). Once it is done, you pay and claim cash back from them.

If you have free replacement, just ask for 100 cash to cover your taxi cost and inconvenience during your car downtime, then leave it with your insurer. Ur insurer wont cheat you la, they already cheat you enough on premiums

Thanks for the advise bro. Turns out they will honour all my conditions and replace an original windscreen with an "in house tinting" by them. They will also warranty the replacement for 1year. They have arrange the replacement for me tommorrow morning.

We will see how it goes...

Good that they are doing the right thing... imagine the consequences when they don... :phone:

I guess so too...putting their reputation at stake for such a small issue really not worth it for them... I just think tthat they are not being very upfront when they first offer me some cash and ask me go and claim my own insurance.... Being such a big company and yet they Wana get out the easy way than to do the right thing.....

Glad to see it turned out well.

I would be abit more strict on the type of tinting they used, unless your original was a cheap one to begin with.

Rather go get own tinting and ask them pay, but of course more hassel for you..

finally finish doing up the windscreen...

met up with the store manager at Autobac and he brought me donw to Glass Fix which is just opposite... Im more relief knowing its Glass fix because from my Grand Vitara and Type R experience (all kena windscreen cracked haha, dont ask me why) they always carry original ...

i spoke to the guy at Glass fix very friendly staff, he told me all the windscreen they carry are all original and they dont play play anyway its the insurer who pays most of the time.

Only one time they have to indent a special MB model which cost them 6K USD just becasue its a limited edition model with the designer signature on it...

Took some pictures of the usual glass stamp marks..looks legit...

anyway they told me this is already the 2nd time , autobac has replace windscreen for their customers... very careless...

I told the autobac store manager that im just gonna wait for next week and come back to him on the tiniting...

he ask if i could use their own in house tinting and not some other expensive brands.. the staff has already gotten some tongue lashing and disciplinary actions from the management and ask if i can help .. sigh... what do you guys think i should do?.. i dont want to set any precedent for being too nice.. neither do i wan to pursue anymore..??

On one hand im just really happy that i got a new crystal clear windscreen out of this whole misery...

Really depends bro.

For me, i dont want more nor less, just replace EXACTLY what i had, if i had an expensive brand, too bad they were at fault so just replace. For me, if you end up settling then the heat gets in your car more than before and makes it uncomfortable, it sounds like you're paying for someone else's mistake. But of course don't go V-Kool that guy's backs!de la. Just get back what you had before, its only fair.
