Damn sway!! autobac ubi broke my windscreen!!!

Hi guys...

its a bad friday for me.. went to autobac ubi and replace a wiper.. one of the staff offer to help with the replacement and while doing so the metal rod slips from his grip and lash back onto my windscreen. Result in a "starburst" cracked followed by a running 20cm "line" crack.

wah i damn angry... the staff went up and call his assistant store manager down to survey the damage. he claimed that it was their fault and that they will replace the windscreen for me with the tinting. I agree to it and told them that i do not require any other form of compensation other than what was due to me.

This assistant manager said he will arrange the windscreen replacement guy to replace for me by Monday.

But strange enough they call me today again and said they will try and repair??? im not exactly a "glass" expert, but can a long line cracked and starburst cracked is repairable?

i have already drop an email to them via their feedback column in their website. i told them if what was promise was not done by Monday or to a resonable level of satisfaction, i would seek recourse through the legal system.

I just wan to know what if they chut pattern and replace a windscreen that is in lower quality or in anyway inferior to what we have on our ride now? can i check the standard of the windscreen?

They even have the cheek to ask me if i can claim my insuarance for the "$100" replacement and they pay me back $100??? i only look at him and ask him if he eat too full....

I say, claim what is due to you - no more no less. In this case, it's a replacement of a new windscreen and not a repair... If you accept a repair, consider if your future safety may be a risk since the tolerance level of the windscreen might be compromised. If you use your $100 insurance coverage to cover their mistake, what happens if you suay suay drive along the road and a stray rock hits your windscreen and it cracks once more? Then you might not have the $100 option and you will have to pay dearly from your own pocket. My 2 cents.

I'm driving the C180...

I don't think I should claim my insurances... not that I want to make things difficult.. just that we all have 1 widescreen per year for replacement.. what if I claim this time and my windscreen break again the next time due to my own doing and then I would need to pay for that replacement ...

Actually I'm perfectly fine if they can repair the crack...I lagi happy... Sigh...damn Sian now..

Demand for replacement of a new windscreen. Damage is only $100 and no NCD claim against u. Also claims for taxi fare lah $50 from Autobacs. Front screen film ask Intratint to quote u than claim against them too. Tell them u are not interested in repairing, new original windscreen is a must.

Report police and file insurance claim on new windScreen replacement

With the police report and the statement of the autobracs guys, your insurance company will claim back the money from autobracs.

U no need to worry here n there

Repaired window screen will affect your resale value in future. Especially yours is a such a long crack

From your photo, it shouldn't be repaired. The way of repair is usually to stop drill the crack line / lines.

The $100/- to ur insurance is like "excess" n it does not (should) not affect your NCB.

I had a similar experience, n had to get a replacement (thru) authorized workshop n paid the $100/-. No effect on NCB.

I would work alone the lines of fixing n get the insurance to recover everything from them. Police report is a definite.

Hope this helps.

I have a slighty different take. While the windshield claim with the $100 excess does not affect your NCD, it may affect the quantum of your insurance renewal. After all, a claim is a claim and insurance companies will have to factor them in for insurance renewal. Given the auto insurance market in Singapore, I think it would be best to avoid any claim from your own insurance and not chalk up an adverse claim history.

OK looks like most you agree that I Should avoid the claim and just get autobac to replace a windscreen for me privately.

I will just make a police tonight... just to keep it in record.

Thanks for all the advise.

Anyway after all this trouble... I drop by Mercedes centre this morning and bought an original wiper from them.

The asst manager from autobac reprimanded that poor dude that he should have place a cloth on the windscreen beneath the wiper before changing the wiper... guess he really should have did that...

No!!! You have to claim the windscreen from insurance... but make them go with u to make payment... It will not affect your insurance...uunless u claim like every year... must change at C&C... u dunno what they give u....

To be exact - The insurance payment for windscreen is $100 + $7 = $107 with GST

IMHO - If need to change windscreen - best leave it to CnC - only at Pandan Loop.

Just walk in - the SA will take over from there!

Did that once for my W203 many years back! (No big increase in insurance premium) :)

Cheers

It can be repair at glassmadic. But since is their fault, replace the glass at C&C and claim against them. Make sure you let the manager to sign a prove that they damage it, or else they change their words.

Yup they are going to call me on Monday and resolve the problem. I will make sure if I can go back cnc to do up. Unless they chut pattern and say that their glass is also from cnc... then how do I know? Right...

I think so cos CnC is doing the job though most of us are using Chartis!

Drink it to Pandan Loop and check with the SA before surrending your ride to them!

2 to 3 days job - cos your ride has to Q for the repairs!

Cheers

Check with yr insurance authorised workshop. Information can be found in the insurance policy too. Usually they will replace with original windscreen do look for mercedes logo if concern. Usually takes only half a day job.

I will claim. What if touch wood something happens when the windscreen is not replaced properly? Insurance company will not lift a finger since it's not done by authorized personnel.

Check with CnC how long the replacement will take, autobacs need to compensate u for loss of car use.

Last but not least, there will be this gluey smell for a couple of week after windscreen is replaced, very irritating!
