hi all,

Greetings to all. I'm actually new here and currently contempating to change my ride.

I'm actually looking at the new audi A4 which is gonna b officially launch tmr, and of course the W204.

I've currently sat on both ride.. but haven't test drive. As the A4 is not launch yet. But will do so soon.

I basically sum up some general findings.

Exterior - I'll go for the B8 A4 "Ambition" edition over the W204 AMG sports package though its about 3k more. Esp the led day lights (R8) are really a killer for me.

Interior - I'll go for the merc any day any time. Its finishing is superb, very very elegant, precise yet sporty (AMG)

Space - I feel the A4 is a ted more roomy than the C Class.

Power Enhancments - Premium Auto as the authorised agent here, provides ecu upgrades, though the upgrading is not here yet, but it will definately come ( stated by the sales agent). I know merc has its own piggyback or ecu upgrading from third party such as kleenman etc, but its still not by a authorise agent. (Sorry but i'm the kind that need some assurance. No offence to those that have chipped up their ride with third party workshop). Its the ease of mind that at least i can fall back on the authorised agent here. This has made the audi with a slight advantage.

Iconic - Merc Benz!!!!! What can i say... its a Merc! :D

So, i'll actually like to hear views from all of you guys here. may it be biased or not.. i really appreciate them.

Lastly, sorry for the lengthly post, hope u guys ain't falling alseep. :iconsalut:

Regards :love7:

I guess I've always harboured a secret thing for Audis and the B8 is a visual treat. I love the rear end - almost 335i perfect. The front looks more menacing than ever. The C isn't too shabby either and can be further enhanced with a slew of kits heading our way soon. I have to admit the Audi B8 does have an edge in my books.

I think it may just boil down to a couple of factors that might sway your decision. For instance, the C is a rear wheel drive platform (which almost always equates to more fun) vs the front wheel driven B8 (unless you go for the 3.2 V6 which comes with Quattro as standard - 40/60 torque split to simulate rear wheel driven cars).

If you may be thinking of taking your modifcations a couple of steps further, the warranty status will be broken eventually. Chipped cars are still hindered by the combination of hardware limitations.

I would take a serious drive in both and base my final decision on which car I can live with on a daily basis for family and self gratification.

bro mysteria, you might wan to identify the exact audi and merc models for easier comparison. but anyway, in general, my 2 cents....

personally, looks wise, (like choosing rims) i think its purely up to the individual...both are equally stunning....but interior build quality wise, the a4 wins hands down.

performance wise, like wat bro homerripper said, the rwd merc offers more fun than the fwd audi, but the a4 that comes wif quattro, will offer you more real world practicality.

branding/status wise, merc, nuff said...(audi fans, dun scold me hor...i also driving audi :P)

now comes the interesting part....mod potential....posion posion...heh heh....any model that comes with forced induction (A4 1.8TFSI) will offer you better value in power upgrades than an NA engine, a simple chip up can gain you up to 25% bhp increase (presumably at half the price of installing a supercharger for an NA car)....BUT.....a major drawback is the a4's transmission, current B8s in spore, only comes in CVT gearbox ie multitronic....meaning limited mod potential, so forget about modding it into a 300, 400 bhp monster without risking your engine, so it really depends how far you wan to go, but barring the c350, its the audi that stands out in this department

so, when it comes to getting a new ride, not matter wat, the most important factor, is still personal needs, so get the one that meet your needs best ;)

and lastly, please allow me to complicate things a bit more for you...hehe....if budget permits, why dun you consider the 335? strong branding, sexy looking beast, immense mod potential, tons of aftermarket parts avail, lots of expertise available at hand, comes in both 2 doors or 4 doors, a highly tune 335 can chiat a stock M3, RS4 and C63..... :devil2:

hi kopimaster,

tks for all ur valuable inputs. No la i'm still working hard for the 335, RS4 and M3... maybe even the R8 :bboyspin:

I'm actually comparing the entry levels, ie C180 with AMG sports package with Audi A4 Ambition package.

Yes i'm actually looking more for power, performance but couldn't resist the comfort of merc... but then again, i believe a test drive will solve most of the dilemma i have right now. I too agree with ur statement on the limitations of the stock hardware that would limit the performance.

As the A4 will be offically launch today.. i guess a test drive isn't too far away. And hopefully i could come to a conclusion.

Many tks again!

Hi Mysteria. Welcome to SGMerc.

Some weeks back, I test-drove both the C350 Sports Sedan and the Audi A4 3.2. I agree with all you mentioned in your post above, and so would only add my impressions of the test-drives:

The A4 felt solid and comfortable, but in its 3.2 form, it gives up around 12 horses to the C350. As a result, the C350 Sports Sedan had more urge. The driving dynamics of the C350 felt more sure and gave me more confidence. I also prefer the Merc damping and ride. The Audi's ride is so much improved over its previous models. Steering the C350 was very similar to my CLS, and if I was looking at an Audi, I would probably look at an AWD.

Like HomerR, I also keep having this tendency to look Audi's way... I'm waiting to try out an A5/S5.

hi guys,

tks for all the valuable inputs.

I've tried both the c180 and the audi A4 1.8T

C180 - Love the interior and the ride.Very light steering i feel so its very comfortable to drive winding roads.

Of couse handling is top notch. Brakes are very sensitive and really STOPS the car.heh! :tongue1:

Although i took the C180 for a ride. The torque is to my standard, i guess the kompressor engine really has the omph!

Overall, my folks love it, as for me i'm still sceptical as i've not gotten my hands on the new A4.

A4 - Actually i was just bring my folks to have a look at the Audi A4 as they are pretty merc oriented.

They are pretty "negative" towards the quad rings. So upon reaching, to my surprised i was able to test drive, as audi presented

the 2 show rooms with a car each as i heard the event at changi is quite a mess. So i guess i'm lucky, did not hestitate to get on

the back of the wheels. Quite an impressive smart key and wat a way to start a car.

On the road, i feel the car wasn't as reponsive and torquy as the C180. I was pretty disappointed. Soon this disappointment went away,

the SE hit on the "dynamic" button, not getting used to it.. straight away i floored the ride and had some wheel spin! OMG! :banghead:

But of couse, the pickup wasn't as linear as the merc due to the nature of the engine. Handling was pretty much comparable to the merc but

i feel it wasn't as sharp. But the omph! of the car.. is there.. and more important was told that the upgrade chips are already here..

this is really made my choice even harder.

but i believe i'll have a verdict soon i guess..

anyway tks all for reading :iconsalut:

cheers!

Yesterday evening I went down for the new A4 B8 1.8T driving experience and i thought was well organised. As for the SE, it is a new car to them.

Every where we go was escorted by the staff and safety is alway mentioned.

I test drive the 1.8T, 2.7 TDI and also the 3.2 quattro driven by the instructor.

I did the emergency switching of lane at the speed of 80km/hr & emergency stop at the speed of 60km/hr, i felt the car was fully controlled and the handling was great. Thanks to the Comfort & Dynamic drive control.

As for the 3.2 quattro, Awesome.

As for the interior, I prefer the the Mercedes W204.

"Personally" i class them as 2 different type of machine.

The A4 1.8T is a Turbo car / performance car.

The C180 is a light supercharger car / luxury car.

No offence, just my personal feeling with this 2 car as i owned both.

likewise, i went for the dynamic test drive by Audi at Changi, and I did feel that it was very well organized. And I think showrooms should organize these sort of test drives rather than a 2 km on the street around the showroom.

Honestly, i was very impressed by the steering wheel response of the 1.8T, and like what Kompressor defined, one's a performance car with some care to trim, while the merc's a luxury car that's given us a supercharger to enhance alittle bit of performance. If the B8 had arrived at the same time, i must confess I might have gone for the Audi.
