I went to the Maldives a couple of years ago. It's a place you have to go! Best to go after Peak if you are shy or want a peaceful holiday, because it's one island and one resort, so you'll be seeing the same guest everyday haha.

Sadly, I didn't stay in Club Med but in Alila Resorts, got the Seaside villas, you could jump off your balcony into the ocean, it the tide is high.

For the scuba diving part, what I did was a 1-day introductory course on how to scuba dive in the swimming pool.

The next day, we went scuba diving around the reef with my instructor behind me in case anything happens and at the same time, regulating the amount of air in my vest.

Unless you want more of an open dive in the middle of the ocean, then I guess you have to do your cert in Singapore / Malaysia first.

Have lost touch of the diving scene here, so can't recommend any. Choose a dive operator properly and do your first open water dive in Tioman or other island with clear water. The local open water dive is the outer island here and it has murky water once the silts get stirred up. It is terrifying for a first timer when you can't see your out stretched hands, so a clear water first dive helps in calming the situation.

Diving in Maldives should be great but you need to start clocking dive time if you want to enjoy your dive there. Check out the dive forum to find out more.
